Finally found rattle and cured it!!!

Featured Replies

V car is one year old today and have treated her with a colour coded grille surround

After fitting I was generally pushing/pulling/tapping/nudging the front of the car when I noticed the bonnet wasn't shut properly

What I mean is the catch was, err, caught but there was play (up and down) in it.

Getting hold of bottom of grille and jiggle it up and down made a rattly noise.

Ive had a rattle ever since I finished running her in and been on a proper drive and it happens over every imperfection in the road

Been in to dealers so many times they put in a Q report over it (not that it came to anything :()

Soooo... 2 big balls of blu-tac attached to the inner rubbers at the front of the bonnet, the small ones just to either side of the grille, and Bob's yer mother's brother (Iactually do have an uncle Bob too:O)

Its only jolly well cured it :)

Been out on an extended test drive along all the worst streets in the area that used to really get it going and its ok.

Always knew that it would get sorted some day but cant beleive I found it!

I suppose blu tac isnt often favoured in the auto world but if you can tell me some thing better?

HAPPY DAYS :D:D:D

could you not have adjusted the bump stops? they screw in and out

And then, when you've finally cured that, you'll go mad when the next rattle/squeak appears......and it will.

I bore myself saying this BUT you'll never drive a car that doesn't respond to imperfections, bumps and holes in our roads.....it's called physics.

So, drive yourself mad ripping your car apart and stuffing it with foam/blu tack, but it'll never completely cure it.

Me, I dont give a sh!t and just ignore it, isn't life too short??

Just turn the radio up! Thats my answer - its cured all my rattles!

Abso-bloody-lutely.

Someone else with better things to worry about.

Rammstein works on the bumpiest of roads.

LOL.....and Rage Against the Machine;)

Life is too short you're right

I'm not the kind of person to hunt all over my car ripping it to bits trying to find the culprit and I haven't. But thinking about it if it was really really bad I just might

It went to the dealers so many times cos I was convinced something serious was wrong with it :(

I have had plenty of rattly old cars in my time and not one of them has annoyed me like this particular one. Also I drive a variety of european cars and guess what? They didnt do it either.

Theres always someone on here ready to say "dont worry about it" or "its not a problem for me"

In the spirit of Briskoda I was gleefully telling everyone about it only to be shot down :(

PS I love Rammstein, seen them a couple of times. Currently listening to Pendulum :)

Rattles I don't mind too much but when things start 'buzzing' to my engine vibrations it makes my teeth stand on edge...

There's one in the dash and one in the boot I think

I know all about these too :D got my vibra technics fitted at the mo'

I guess rattle doesnt quite describe some things well enough (like yer bonnet not being shut properly)

I wasn't shooting anyone down, I was merely attempting to make you feel better by saying that it's an occurance called physics.

You cannot have hundereds (no thousands) of screwed/bolted/welded parts - some moving and some static - without them reacting to changes in road surfaces, some surfaces often severe (potholes etc). Glove compartment hinges and latches, cubby hole covers, seat mounts, miles of wiring, bearings etc blah yawn ZZZzzzzzzzzzzz (get the picture yet?)

A few people on here swear blind that they have driven cars that have NEVER reacted to road surfaces (and they say never, no matter how bad the surface:O). When negotiating some UK roads even the most expensive, most luxurious car WILL creak/knock or rattle a bit. All I am saying is IF your £12000 furby has the odd rattle which isnt due to damage or malfunction then dont drive yourself mad worrying about it. Think of the poor sods that spend £50,000 + on a motor only to find it rattling from time to time, because it will.

Me, I dont really give a t@ss if you wanna rip your car apart to pad it with crap, because as soon as you've done that, another will appear somewhere else (or in the same place).

Now I'll await the "well I had a £500 Escort that NEVER rattled" brigade.

Mmmmmm.....ok:rolleyes:
