Opening factory air box

Featured Replies

I need advice on how to get into the standard airbox. I can see that there are two screws where the yellow arrows point, and that once the lid is free it will just slide out from the row of "clips" indicated by the green arrows, but are there any other screws I need to remove? How about where the blue arrows point? I decided it was a bit too close to the MAF for me to be poking around "blind" with a screwdriver.

TIA

(with thanks to Manny for providing the photo of the (astonishingly clean) engine bay  )

Thought I recognised the pic,

its much easier to get into the airbox if you remove the whole thing. Disconnect the maf wire and gently prise off the clip that secures it to the rubber pipe (left side of maf). Disconnect lower hose and remove. repeat in reverse for install, but the big clips is a pain in the **** to reattach.

You can do it with just removing the screws and nothing else, but you get a bit more lateral room if you lift the plastic battery cover up. I looked at the MAF etc but if you take sensible care / time and don't try to force anything its easy.

What is the fabled fin removal mod? Is it worth doing?

Thanks Rob, but which ones? Yellow and blue? Or just yellow?

Simon just the yellow ones...2 of.....honest its a doddle.....once two screws are out tilt it from that side until it unhooks from the "hinges"

what do you want to do anyhow:confused:

Use some mole grips to get the clip off for the MAF. Move the pipe out and then put the clip back om the airbox so that it doesn't close right up.

I've done it. Don't know if it adds anything, but it certainly won't hurt. At least it lightens the car a bit ;)
