XENON BULBS, RETRO FIT TO FABIA vRS

Featured Replies

Has anyone had any problems in retro fitting Xenon Bulbs to replace standard ones on Fabia vRS.

I intend to replace with BOSCH 477B, XENON POWER.

I only ask because some 'Numpty', in HALFORDS said that due to the plastic lens covers on the light unit, they should not be fitted.

I cannot see this being a problem ! {I thought most new cars have a plastic type cover on the light unit and why manufacture upgrade bulbs if not suitable}.

Could be back to Halfords tomorrow to enlighten the young man !!!!!!

Proper Xenon's operate at 1000's of volts so I am sure you can't just plug in and forget.

Xenon GAS DISCHARGE headlights indeed do operate at many thousands of volts but I think the bulbs that PLANKEY refers to are standard halogen bulbs with added xenon gas -- that being the case there will be no problems at all!!

Blue xenon look bulbs are CRAP.. no brighter than stock and dazzle other drivers... Also don't last that long. == Max power muppet!!

30% - 50% brighter uses Xenon gas in with the normal Halogen, allowing the

bulb to run hotter without the filament burning out!!

Phillips Vision + and Osram Silverstar are the best...

Noticeable improvement ... recommended...

Cheers

But do these funky holgen bulbs with xenon gas actually look like blue/white shimering xenons or are they just a waste of money?

I can't remember where I read this, but I'm certain that I read the results of a test conducted by either the AA or the Police that said that "fake" xenon bulbs were "at best" worthless, and "at worst" dangerous (depending on the make, I assume).

Never tried them myself, so I can't comment from personal experience. :)

After owning a car without Xenons and then adding these bulbs there really wasn't that much difference apart from a slight (slight) blue tinge.

Then after buying a VRS with Xenons there really is no comparrison, lets just say your money would be better spent on a panel filter or 90 Mars bars :)

I run 100w philips rallye in the main beam position, and philips silverstar +50% in dipped beam. Lots more light and not had any problems with running to hot. Ive run for over 60 mins with the beam on with no problems.

I would certainly go for the Philips vision ultra bulbs. Had them in the old 16v and had a noticable improvement. The Xenon style bulbs are useless. Last for less than half the life of a normal bulb and give no lighting benifits. I know as I tried them in my old Pug 106.

dazzle other drivers...

Just like the real thing then ;)

The reason the fake max-power "xenon" bulbs are so bad is because to make them look blueish, there is a blue filter applied to the bulb glass. A blue filter simply removes the yellow part of the spectrum - which is most the output of any halogen bulb.

Although the box says xenon its actually a tungsten halogen bulb with a bit of xenon in the mix as noted above.

The "30% brighter" etc bulbs aren't really brighter if they are e-marked (ie legal), they have a wider wound filament which changes the light pattern produced by the headlight, which is why they say "up to 30%". It depends on the headlight reflector pattern as to which part of the beam is brighter.

Provided the bulbs you are looking at do not exceed the standard power consumption, they cannot damage your cars headlights or wiring.

I'm currently using H4 'Xenon' 100/80W bulbs imported from the USA and they are much better than standard. Not cheap but better than anything else in the UK.

They look really like Xenons when turned on and so far in the last 3 months they hav done no damage to my wiring or plastic lenses.

I can post pics if anyone is interested!
