When to change plugs on RS

Featured Replies

Dealer says after 40k. But the guy who did my revo remap today says I should get it done now. Even though I have 11k miles up only after 21months, he reckons the plugs could seize and it should be done.

Also, I asked my dealer about getting Skoda to replace the coils. No dice. Not enough RS's sold in Ireland to warrant it. Got the same story out of Skoda last year when I rang them up. Said they were monitoring it but no recall. Dealer told me today if the coils go they will get a goodwill warranty extension out of skoda to sort em. Maybe it won't come to that.

I think that the guy who did your Revo remap is giving you questionable advice. Period.

Said they were monitoring it but no recall.

Bullsh*t, obviously with the low number of RS's here there not going to see a trend. I can't understand why they don't monitor the number of failures in a different country eg England. As I said to Skoda when I tried to get them changed, its good for their image having my car on the back of a tow truck.

Tell your dealer that it would be cheaper to do them now as he'll have to pay for a tow truck when they go as you wont be prepared to drive it in.

My spark plugs were changed at 30K

My plugs were 1st changed at the 2nd service which was done at 34k miles.

Told him that. He says Skoda wont budge. I tried a couple of time sbefore now as well. He said it would cost 125 euros including vat and labour, but advises to wait and see what happens. I guess I am lucky so far.

By the way, got my Revo remap done today. I don't know how I lived without it before. Dumpvalve, induction kit (maybe) next week and a rolling road. Next month I am hoping to fit a new cat, downpipe and exhaust, and a forge air intake replacement pipe.

I've had 2 services already at 11k. One at 4.9k. Had the car a year, so an oil change. Another at 11k. Had the car 21months and got the full 2 year service done :) Waiting until the car is 2 years old exactly to get the brake fluid changed. My concern with the plugs was that the tuner said they could seize if I let them go more then 2 years, despite the fact I would only do 6k miles a year.

Quick question but how can spark plugs seize? I'd agree with Denis it sounds a bit dodgy to me mate.

Actually when I think about it, he was talking about them being so old they would be impossible to get out.

Take them out yourself bit of copper grease around the thread check the electrode if all looks ok whack them back in.

Its a joke, we know theres a problem, they know theres a problem so who are they trying to kid. To be honest I'm getting pi**ed off with Skoda CS. They seem to have dragged there feet on anything thats needed to be changed, Coil packs, seat covers, DTC17705 fault code. A new RS might have been on the cards for me next year but that could be getting less likely now.

My plugs were changed at 40k and it transformed the car. I'm seriously considering a new set although there's another 10k to go before the next scheduled change and it's less than a year since they were done. As some people know I've been suffering from an intermittent misfire for a while and the plugs are the only thing I haven't changed. Maybe a job for tomorrow ... although I have several cars to clean

although I have several cars to clean

So stop collecting them! :D
