Retrieving Data from Laptop......

Featured Replies

I have a Laptop which has finally given up the goast. In a " Word " it's Kn@kard, it won't even start up, it's that bad...I could do with some Data off the hard drive " Is it possible to salvage the hard drive or is it gone for good....Any Suggestions ??????????????? :(

take it out, get a 2.5-3.5 inch disc adaptor, get an empty USB HDD caddy, and plug it all together would be the simplest thing to do

I have an external usb 2.5" hard drive enclosure that ive used under similar circumstances!

Just stick the drive inside it and plug into USB port and away you go!

I also have a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter that can make the drive useable in a pc with 3.5" connectors etc.

Right if you have a desktop pc you can stick the drive in to retrieve the data from... you can have the laptop drive converter i have for the price of postage as its no good to me anymore!

Look that the picture below... once you've removed the drive from the latop connect to this then connect to the normal connectors inside the desktop pc and away you go!

Very Kind of you ...........Can this be used with a laptop??.Just thought of somthing else....eeerrrrrrrrrrrrr Whats a Laptop Hard Drive Look Like..

Just like a smaller, thinner desktop HDD :) Where to find it in the laptop is another question :D There isn't any standard place they are put, it could be anywhere. Some are easy to remove, others need the whole damn thing taken apart  just depends how old the laptop is.

When you do get it out, it is likely to be in a cradle of some description that will have to be removed along with any adapter covering the interface pins before you can use it in anything else.

Andy - just a thought but what make is the laptop (and model) and what are the symptoms of it not starting. I know some of the IBM ones can be "deaded" when the battery dies, even when the AC is plugged in. Easy solution is to remove the battery and run off AC.
