Travel across USA - maps and petrol

Featured Replies

Hi. Is there a website please, with a grid like the AA's for the UK showing town-to-town road distances?

A site that gives from-to route details would also be useful, not for details but more to show how much would be motorway. This because trying to get an idea of fuel cost so might be able to make a better guess at MPG.

Many thanks

Mo

Mapblast used to be good for this, but it's been bought out by Microsoft for MSN Maps now, I would say that google maps would be an excellent start point though.

I was also going to suggest google maps, although I'm not sure it has the distance grid you mention.

Don't forget they call petrol gas by the way!

Oh - and the US gallon is about 4/5th of our gallon (3.785 litres vs 4.546 litres IIRC) so remember to bear this in mind if you are looking at their MPG figures for a particular car

Thanks to both. I hadn't thought of Google maps and I'd certainly forgotten that USA gallons are different from ours. :)

Thanks mikeSM56 :) I had a quick look, although it seems one might have to be a member to get access to their services, so will have a proper look later, as it might be worthwhile signing up depending on what cover/services might come with the car under the hire arrangement.

Depends how hard you want to make it for yourself :P

Anybody see this, last night on More 4?

Think " Mapquest " used to be quite good if you had zip codes to hand . Been across seeing family the last three or four years , last year took my navman sat nav + a USA memory card , made the whole trip so much more relaxed with only having to concentrate on driving at the wrong side and not rely on SWMBO's navigational skills !

If your going to hire a car, then become a "business partner" of the hire company. I am a member with Hertz and I ALWAYS get the best car that they have in the car park for a free upgrade!!!! I just pay using the Hertz company card that I have. If you don't have this card then take about $250 and "drop" the guy at the hire desk a xmas bonus.....lol and this will get you the same service! :)

Hi again. More thanks :)

Why not invest in a TOMTOM 910 ( I think thats what mine is ) It has US maps as standard and shows all the gas stations as the map moves along.
