GPS log file analyser?

Featured Replies

Anyone know of a good windows / pda based gps log file analyser?

I'd like a nice windows one with telemetry. Have only found a basic one for pda which just gives max speed attained and altitude...

TomTom GPS has a GPS log IIRC.

Not sure what exactly it does, as i haven't tried it yet :)

it records the details of your journey, you can then play it back later and see your speed etc. Need to test it at the ring sometime, especially now I have the tomtom3 germany map, and yes the ring is on it.

Xavier I have been looking for a simillar thing, something that would show average speed etc..

Geoff, yes, it does have the gps logging facility.

You can play back a log with it and it will show you data, but it's not very friendly - it shows exactly the same stuff as what you see on the gps screen. Although it has speed, N&W coords and satellite reception, it's not the easiest way in which to interpret the data.

I would hope the log is in a standard format.

Looking at the file it produces:

There are obviously a set of parameters such as $GPGGA, $GPGLL, $GPRMC, $GPVTG, $GPGLL, $GPGSV... with data. Just need to figure out how to interpret the data, and at what frequency it is updated.

Hmm, thinking about it:

$GPRMC,124606.051,A is probably the altitude, 5229.0654,N North coords, 00108.9582,W West coords, 8.68,056.0,240404,,*25 time/date (24/04/04 rings a bell anyone? ;))

Would that happen to equate to Bruntingthorpe by any chance! ;)
