OctyII vRS tFSI ticking noise

Featured Replies

Just noticed this as I was working in close proximity to the engine.

Does anybody else's engine make a ticking noise when its idling - it sounds like it's coming from the alternator when you put your ear near it.

I've never noticed it before because I've never been outside the car when its been running... just wondering if anybody else has it?

I'm nervous because I've just fitted my Carbonio CAI, and I'm worried I may have knocked something :(

Probably fuel injectors. My vRS does it.

They do make a ticking noise. Could be the cam driven fuel pump.

Thanks fellas.

I must admit, they sound crap when you start them up, but get better when warm :)

Mine still ticks after a good run, even when it's warm... it does however sound like a tractor when she first starts yes :D

Unfortunately not the most tuneful engine cold or warm.

I can tell when mine needs it's oil topping up by the noise it makes when hot.

how many miles has it done? mine started at 18,000 miles had it in twice no joy, noisey injecter iwas told by tech guy. appartenly there testing back at the factory why it is happening cause they have had a few. currently running one in milton k and now done over 30,000 miles with no more probs. mine just broke down again today wont restart will see if its connected.:(

Mine makes the said ticking noise.

Not the most tuneful engine in the world it must be said (still, better than those old tractor engines:))

8,500 miles on mine... it's not too bad and I only really noticed it when I had the bonnet up and was working underneath it.

It's more than likely the fuel pump mate. Nothing to worry about.

I aksed the dealers about it on my previous mk1, they said it may be the 'scavenger' on the exhaust, whilst the engine is idling, removing excess waste products from the combustion process.

As billybskoda says, I think it is a rectangular box that contains a charcol filter-type thing for the exhaust.

No idea how it works mind.

My exhaust has got louder with the miles, unlike my MKI >)
