Why did you buy a vRS?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Previous car was a 98 hyundai coupe in electric blue - loved the car but lights and dealer were poor.

In the winter couldn't really see much on country roads, plus I wanted an RS since I first saw it.

Reasons :

Excellent value

Excellent spec

Great fun

Good looking (the car - not me!), though not as much of a head turner as the coupe

Also had a felicia a couple of years ago and knew that Skoda's were good.

The dealer is just a couple of miles away and is excellent. I've had several different cars in the past and this is by far the best one I've ever dealt with.

Had 2 or 3 test drives - one with the dealer and the others he just gave me the keys and said off you go.

Was going to get a black one but then saw one in yellow and had to have one.

All in all an excellent decision - I may even keep it for 3 years (record so far is 2) as I'm not bored with it yet and I've had it since July.

I did look at the Leon but the test drive was very boring, the dealer was reluctant to let me on a motorway and I found the driving experience was dull.

I can recommend the vRS to anyone, best of all is beating the boy racers in their Golfs and BMWs !!

LOL! :D That must be the ultimate in emasculating ignominy for a BMW driving boy-racer. Drubbed by a woman in a Skoda. Good on yer!

Chuckles loudly .... bet they never tell their mates !

Why did I buy the RS? Well I was looking for something that had VFM (Value For Money). I did consider the Civic Type-R but at the time of purchase the Civic wouldn't have been available for 3 months.

I decided on the RS because it had a better standard fitment (you had to pay extra with the Civic for air con) the RS had a ******** huge boot and was/is faster than any other car in its class/price. Also I love beating all those cars that reckon the Skoda RS isn't up to the job (there you go bye bye Mr BMW, VW,Volo etc down wash out lane).

Re: Civic Type R. DrPepper hit the nail on the head, it's got a lovely engine but it's designed for a track not everyday driving. Also I heard that it pays to buy a Japanese import, they come with air con as standard. Strange as they are built in the UK!

I'm getting bored stiff with this thread. grumpy.gif

How about a Why did you buy a Felicia? thread to keep the rest of us interested.......

Time to freed the dog........dog.gif

I notice no one is suggesting saving up for a Focus RS , is this to be one of only a handful of Ford RS cars that do not go straight into iconic status? Some of the motoring press (especially EVO and Jezza on TG) have really savaged this car , I wonder whether Ford is now rueing not going the whole hog and fitting 4WD....

I didn't buy a vRS but NEARLY did ( I agreed the deal) and just bought a 4x4 estate over a vRS estate.

Most of what I say applies to either the vRS or 4x4 (especially when either can be chipped to same BHP)

+ Build, ride, boot space, std kit, service cost, MPG (amazing!), (Audi S3) Haldex 4x4 & ESP

- Honestly ? The stereo, dull looks but better as an estate I think, rear legroom

Once remapped I reckon I'll give it an equal score to my previous Impreza Turbo and A4 Quattro V6 TDI (both chipped).

A great all-rounder.

I'm amazed , the stereo I can understand , but the " dull looks " if we are are talking dull , step forward the Impeza ! , for a car of it's supposed ability , it is bog ugly .................... in fact it's much worse than that , by comparison the Octavia , in any guise , is a thing of beauty .

But doesnt air con reduce power at the wheels?

I take looking from the brochure air con is standard.

When I started my last job I was looking at getting a Focus RS, I can get a 20% as I know someone who works for the ford mo co. but no ford dealer allowed this on the RS. Besides the Focus is a ugly car. NOTHING LIKE THE CAPRI!!!!

The cupra R looks rough, and i hate seat, why is it 225bhp? is it the same head from the tt.

Skoda should make the vRS 4x4.

Im not looking to get it in August. But really really want a test drive after reading this thread, but dont want to be pressured by any salesman.

When you say coil pack, I take it your talking about the ignition coil. Isnt this problem sorted on the new ones.

The cupraR is 210 bhp, like the old Audi S3. I believe it uses the larger K04 turbo.

I think the Leon actually looks better than the Octavia. The Octavia's far from being an ugly car but it's no looker either, better than a Subaru but not as good as an Alfa.

Yes Daytripper the coilpacks in newer RSs are suppose to OK. However, my dealer had a brand new RS turn up with a faulty coilpack. But supplies of the coilpacks are at a level now that even if one fails there shouldn't be a problem getting it replaced.

Dull and ugly are two different things !

The Impreza is like a really ugly dog - but you might respect and like it for what it is. The Octavia is just not that exciting - I did say that I think it looks better integrated as an estate though - looks sportier to me.

The new Octavia isn't that far away (a year?) and I reckon it'll be more 'chiselled' around the front end - like a grown up Fabia with attitude ! Its been out for over 5 years now hasn't it so its bound not to be the most radical or interesting shape around.

Yes, it does but you can always shut it off when in need of the extra few bhp, can't you?

Oh alright, this time I will refrain from rambling on yet again about my DIY "RS" 4x4... (Although it is starting to look less like an RS by the day!) ;)

I am really amazed by this apparently common UK practice whereby the salesman will go along for the testdrive - or will even take the wheel for you. That's unheard of! Here, if you are seriously interested in a car, you can take one on a drive yourself for the best part of a day, no strings attached. What is the reasoning behind not trusting a prospective customer?

Previously owned a Tavia 1.9TDI L&K, and am off to pick up my RS in an hour. So I will be smiling from ear to ear in a little bit. Why buy it? Coz I test drove it!

The end.

Damien
