cars that blokes just dont look right driving!!

Featured Replies

Ka's, Micras, Beetles etc are typically girly as they are either all style and no substance (debatable style at that!), or purely a means of transport with no style or slant towards driver enjoyment.

The Ka is frequently applauded for it's sharp handling, making it a fun drive despite low power.

Russ Swift switched to using the Micra SR over the Mini for his stunt driving. Nissan UK "Europeanised" it at the Nurburgring.

Beetle is basically a Mk 4 Golf - which is basically an Octavia. It rates about as well on styling or driver enjoyment as the Octavia as far as I'm concerned. :)

Small cars are more fun than large ones, a *real* man wouldn't really let anyone's misguided attitudes affect his choice of a car. :D

I think I can safely say I look like a right **** when I drive Mrs H's Picasso...complete with Daisy decals all over it (Thanks KTP for that one) and a fluffy pink steering wheel cover.

After driving it, I have to go and have my wicked way with a woman, then pick a fight with some random bokes just to reassert my masculinity

Ah but Steven, you look sooo good driving it though.

:gay:

Just walked through the visitor's carpark and saw the personification of a 'Not-A-Man's-Car' car....... a Mitsubishi Colt CZC.

Didn't get a photo but google it to see it in all it's girly grandness :D

I can't believe no one's included the MX5?

Someone had exempted it, but it's all wrong!

and I refuse to call the Boxster a Porsche

Go ahead, refuse. Even though it's about 3-4 times more expensive than your car, faster, handles better, and holds it's value like a Porsche.

Wouldn't even call the Boxster S a Porsche? One of my best friends has one, and I've driven it, and the sound of the engine is a Porsche alone. They're labelled Porsche for a reason..

It's great hearing people talk on forums, even the CTR Forum. "A Boxster? Haha, it's just showing you couldn't afford a 911" Typical Clarkson quote. But in reality they're driving around in a Honda Civic/ Skoda, and a specific person is driving a Porsche.

I'll give you that one. Still girly though.;)

But I refuse to concede that the Micra is not a girly car, no matter what Russ Swift uses to do his fancy parking! ;):D

I'm sure you're all man though Rob. I guess driving a Micra is like a guy wearing a pink shirt- perfectly acceptable these days and shows you're not afraid of your sexuality!:D

and I refuse to call the Boxster a Porsche

 Clearly never driven one. Why is the Boxster not a real Porsche? Sublime handling?- check. Mid-engine, rear- drive?- check (better configuration than the 911) Top quality driver focused interior?- check. Quick enough with a fantastic power to grip ratio?- check

Not really seeing where it strays from the Porsche core values here (unlike the Cayenne).

The problem is it's cheaper than a 911, putting it in 'posuer' price bracket. And then people spout the "can't afford a real Porsche" line, which if you translate it actually means "I'm jealous 'cos I can't afford any Porsche"

The Boxster is a great car, don't let some of the estate agents who drive them purely for the badge dilute that fact.

But a Boxster is just showing you can't afford a 911!

Given the choice, which would you have?

Porsche brought out the Boxster to fill a vacant spot at the lower end of their product range. They wanted to sell the cheaper car and then coax people up to a 911.

Has a Saab 9-3 Convertible been mentioned yet ?

As for a Boxster...i'd take one ! :D

 Clearly never driven one.

Why do people always say that?

Yes I have driven one, and ok, it went and handled well... but it's still the poor second runner to the 911. A car built out of necessity, not because they wanted to build a car

My Roadie's a man's car because it's owned by a man. Namely me.

If someone else wouldn't drive it because of other people's perceptions then more fool them.

I had a go in a Copen once and thought it was quite good fun (wouldn't buy one though because of the scuttle shake)

Also, when I'm sat in traffic in the sun with the roof off and all the real men are stuck in their tin boxes I get the last laugh, and a suntan

Ok. Skoda is just showing you couldn't afford a Volkswagen or Audi.

So you bought the lower end of their product range.

It's one big circle mate, and it's a complete rubbish statement.

So a Fabia's a girls car because it's second to an Octy? Which is a girls car because it's below the Superb in the range?

Well, not really. I could have afforded the equivalent cars from VW, Seat, or Audi... but I liked the Octavia best.

Regardless... I know how I feel about it, you know how you do, so lets leave it there? :)

I've driven a Boxster and it's far from girlie. It is a poor man's Porsche though, but still a proper Porsche none-the-less :D Audi TT - now that's a girlie car ;)

Chris

Exactly, what a complete pish statement.

No Skoda is a real Skoda except the Superb.

No Audi is a real Audi except the R8 (the A8 used to be a real Audi but not anymore).

No Ferrari is a real Ferrari except the 612 etc etc.

Really stunned at such an ignorant statement.

You're right though, lets leave it there and be glad that not everyone likes the same cars :)

Likewise, but my friend opted for a Boxster S, even though he could have had a 911 Carerra. Simply because it is to be a run around for a few months before he buys his next car.

Rob.

you should be used to sexually insecure Fabia drivers by now Rob. Although its clear the 90% of the voting is based on vendetta/points scoring/jealousy..... nothing new for this board then......

I'd quite like to hear a review on a standard Fabia vRS comparisons to a standard 330D, when you have time. :)

I have time. Fabia vRS is for those who cant afford a 330D or a Boxster or an Octavia:rofl:

but then it is faster than all of them, appreciates in value, and has magic powers (witness the comedy for sale threads........

The Renault Clio - The prev gen version espec - definately girly

As is the Fiat Punto. My Dad was looking at those before I went the way of the Skoda and bought the Felicia.

OK it sounds girly but it looks manly :D

I don't get why a Boxster is regarded as a poor man's 911!

One is a 2 seater convertible, the other a coupe - just because they are both RWD and come from the same stable does not make them the same genre of car imo!

I would drive a Boxster - been out in an S and it was very satisfying.

Would also have a Honda S2000 whereas some folk think they are girly too.

its regarded as a poor mans 911 because you can buy one for 1/2 the money - doesnt mean its right but the economics are plain.

Having owned a 911 and driven a boxster on a number of occasions I would have a 911 in pref - for me the boxster feels too much like "cheaper" jap mid engined stuff and i miss the 911 style of driving its special in a way that "non beleivers" just wouldnt understand.
