Vehicle Speed Sensor part number please

Featured Replies

My etka just got busted for some reason so untill I get it working again...

Can anyone help with a p/n (or a cheap online supplier) for the auto box vehicle speed sensor on a 2002 Octy L&K automatic 1.8T estate. It's from this fault code:

00281 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (G68)

VIN number for the vehicle is TMBFL21U638669636 with an AUM engine code.

AFIK this is the one under the gearbox upper mount and visually it has a round top and lead going to a 3 pin connector about a foot away by the cylinder head gasket. Went to replace it and found Euro Car Parts had given me an Astra crank sensor instead... If anyone knows dealer price that would be good too. Much appreciated!

Greg.

There are two on the gearbox, pretty much side by side.

01M 927 321 B

or

095 927 321 B

BTW it looks just like this:

Thats the 01M part then. The other one is also shown on the image.

Cheers Stu, you are a star (as usual). Are those part numbers both the same? It's the one in the pic, I believe, I'm working this from the fault code. The one nearer the engine is I believe the trans speed sensor which is different to my indicated fault code of VSS G68.

Are the above fault codes both for that sensor? Greg.

Posting at the same time - you already answered my Q! Cheers again! ;-)

The good news is that it's the cheaper one.

Just to let anyone reading this know, I did this job this evening - remove the battery (I rigged up power to the +ve side and ground from a aux battery out of the car before disconnecting the battery - to save any radio codes etc) and secure +ve terminal where it can't short anything (not needed if not using aux battery), remove battery tray, remove air box housing, jack support box, remove gearbox mounting (the one bolted to the box, you can leave the one bolted to the chassis/it's rubber/insert piece in the rubber in situ) 3 bolts having first removed the 13mm cable/pipe securing nut on top of one of the mount bolts, then lower box 2in and remove mount. Then you can see and remove the sensor.

Anyhow - for those following the part number I found myself with either the part number or euro car parts to blame as the new one was right, but had a golf style 'square' plug, not the octavia half round style. So with a dead car on a jack in the evening I did the only sensibe thing, cut up a brand new sensor and spliced it into the old plug, soldered heat shrinked, wrapped and foil surrounded. The pins and wiring colour seems to be the same and the sensor looks identicle, just the plug is different.

So fingers crossed it worked as I can't take it back.....

I'm not sure what that makes the correct part number, perhaps checking the golf part number to see if it's the same may help but anyhow if buying one of these check you have the correct shape connector.

Greg.

Why didn't you try a dealer for the part? I have had mixed success with ECP and GSF. FOr Brakes and things like that they can be ok but electrical items are a bit hit and miss. The brake light switch that I bought in a rush on a saturday afternoon one day was woeful and virtually fell apart in my hands.

I have a trade account with Euro and so far everything I have bought (bar water pumps, which are an upgraded design compared to oe with brass impella) is oe - eg the Bosch MAF which ran me £20 cheaper than dealer for the exact same part.

Usually my customers are on a tight budget and if it's me (this car is one of mine) I'm CERTAINLY on a budget lol. I just can't generally afford the extra for the dealer, I have checked about a dozen times and so far Euro was cheaper each time. I have another, better, factors I use for general stuff but not for specific electronics or lighting.

So anyhow that's the reason, right or wrong, and the part looks perfect and oe in every respect other than the VW style connector. It really irks me that Skoda used a different connector - had this on an air con pump, from a PD golf and fitted it to a Octavia - Sanden pump all the same but the connector was the 'round one end' not 'square' style so I had to break into the wiring and fit the original connector.. So annoying.
