Vectra 3.0 SRI CDTI

Featured Replies

Anyone have experience of the following:

Vectra 3.0 SRI CDTI

The MPG isn't fantastic - but it's a v6 with 184BHP - and year old models are around the 13-14k mark.

For a mile mucher - it looks a good choice?

Tell me, do you like understeer? :)

Then buy a Mondeo........................................

If they bring out a ST Mondeo TDI (as per the last mondeo)...

But i'm not convinced by the performance of the 2.0 TDI 140bhp variant - on paper it looks a bit light on pace...

The mondeo is also a bit priceyer second hand...

Is this another example of the Boxster case, where you give opinions but not actually driven them?

Do you drive and get understeer everywhere? If you do, it's your driving, not the car.

Actually go and test drive one, they handle just fine.

They do but not the best - and yes I have driven one - I take people on test drives every weekend :finger:

There is no such thing as bad car nowadays it's just what people like or hate.

IMHO the old shape mondeo is a better drive and is at the mo a bargain £10 - £12k for a tidy 6 month old car.

As for the boxter I ended up with sever backache the last time I drove one. The pedals are too small for my wide feet and I got severe backache.

but there again some may love them - but not me.

i quite like vectra's they handle ok.. but the 1.9cdti 150 is a better engine than the v6.. which is not any where near as good as 3.0 and v6 would have you believe...

And as I said, yes I have driven a Boxster... if only you actually READ what I posted...

I've noticed the ease that the Vectra will understeer, as have a number people I've spoken to

coming from someone who has driven one, and a v6 signum, and a vxr vectra i havent found them to be that bad

maybe thats cos im not 7 feet tall with silly hair shouting "POWER" every time im behind the wheel :)

they are a bit weighty at the front but even when i pushed the vxr i coudlnt get the sorts of silliness that clarkson was talking about. as a day to day driver they are quite good. im not a huge fan of the inetiors though.

imoa the signum is the one to go for used as they dropped like a stone in price, but driving a elite version with full irmscher upgrades made for a very nice drive!

I quite like the look of the Signum :)

A guy I know had got an Irmscher one!

but if you had driven one you wouldnt have made your earlier inane statement:rolleyes:

as for "will understeer" I can make a formula ford understeer - doesnt mean it is a design flaw.

Obviously not. :finger:

I cant help laugh about the middle fingers from people on the defensive.

JMK2, As for your finger up at me, I'll let it go as it's the internet ;) But, whilst we're on this subject, what's a Boxter?

Laugh then.

If you want to think I've not driven these cars, fair enough. But you're wrong.

I have always spoken as I find, and about the understeer problems with the Vectra, that's how I've found it.

i've seen some of those signums at unreal prices, big spec too, leather and the like, and they look interesting, arn't that common and as has allready been said cheap, surely they can't get any cheaper as a used bargain.

I would love to have a car as comfortable as my sofa:P

For the same sort of money you could probably have a SEAT, Skoda, VW with a 2.0TDI (140 bhp) engine. Add a remap and your at around the same sort of mark power wise except you'd be getting 45-50mpg I'd imagine....

Saying that I've never experienced the Vectra let alone the 3.0 CDTI engine so there's nothing to lose by getting a test drive in one :)

Sorry (Hide)

No just do not like Vectra's - especially after having had to suffer one. They aren't that bad but Mondeo beats it IMHO.

Boxster - A Porsche (sorry if I spelt this wrong). They do drive well but my back and feet... OK I think it's because I'm 40

like most cars they are very spec dependant. little wheels low spec and soft susp is not a nice drive.. just as it isnt in mondeo / octy / etc

The standard vectra suspension is quite soft but is perfect for the motorway, it's the most comfortable car i've driven in that situation. It soaks up those crap concrete sections very nicely.

The one I had was the 'exclusiv' with faux alloy wheels and that's about it. The higher specced models would obviously be nicer cars to drive.

And 184BHP from a 3 litre is not much cop these days. Probably bags of torque but it willl kill you at the pumps. Go for a 1.9CDTI

Laugh then.

sorry i still dont think its any worse than any other FWD car. ive had the vxr at the limits on a track and found it to be fine, it was a progressive feel and i knew what it was doing, that didnt stop me enjoying the drive!

how and in what situatiuon did you "find" this understeer?

The Saab 93 (2.0t engine) is one of the best handleing FWD drive cars I've owned - is the sports suspension set up different on the Vectra (at the end of the day I can't imagine it will be that different to a Saab 93 considering they have the same platform)

understeer is caused by poor drivers not adapting to the car.

or provoked by childish ones because its funny.

all cars understeer to a degree its the trasition from understeer to drift to oversteer that makes some more fun than others..

They are not that quick, just guy a 150bhp and get it remapped to about 190bhp. It is much lighter, better on fuel and is faster. Plus with the lighter front end it handles better. The Vectra handles very good anyway so don't bother with the SRi unless you like the look of it, go for a Design as it is a much better spec for less. Don't get the auto box either it is pretty shit.
