How do i fix a non-opening boot?

Featured Replies

How do i fix a non opening boot the key goes in and turns but nothing happens, any quick fix's or ideas on what to do? thanks darren

Can you open it with the lever next to the drivers seat (assuming you have one)?

Its likely to be a knackered lock, can be replaced fairly easily, even easier if your happy to have a separate key for the boot.

I'm assuming you have a felicia??

Hi Darren

You'll find a white plastic part has snapped off the back of the boot lock, i fabricated my own but it took a lot of work. Best bet is to find a scrapper and 'borrow' this part of the lock.

yeah i'm no bothered bout the 2 keys idea but how do i get it open when its stuck shut? i don't have a lever at ma drivers side in ma felicia

darren

I guess you'd need to remove the rear seats, and crawl in the back and remove the trim on the tailgate, peel back the plastic membrane and mess with the lock mechanism till it pops up.

ps correct myself tho, just found the lever for the boot but no joy, can hear the cable move things but no opening

You will need to follow Anewman's advice and go through the tailgate itself. Once its open its a fairly easy fix for the lever as its only cable driven.

Depending on which part is broken you may need to get a new lock piece for your boot, really depends what is actually wrong with it.

Here is a pic of the plastic part that has probably snapped on the back of your boot lock.

As has happened with this one, the lug has broken off (see jagged part at bottom of photo). When this happens the key just spins in the lock.

thanks guys! i have a cnc at my work that i only cut plastic with so if i can get the old one out i'll make a new one outta shock resistant abs, you guys truely are THE most helpful forum eva! lol

some times, if i haven't opened the boot for a week or so, the boot sticks shut and you really have to give it some force to open it. just try pulling up on the boot really hard befor you go pulling stuff off.

let us know how it goes.

Very true - same with the doors especially if the seals were wet when they were shut!

Yes, have to agree, the doors and boot rubbers are very sticky, i periodically wipe them down with WD40

one quick tip about the boot lock, that bit in the picture seems to break on a few felly's if you are down the scrappy and see a mk2 golf, they have the same part in the boot except its metal not plastic, its almost a direct fit needs a quick file down on the extended part but apart from that its much better

How many other metal bits did VW turn to plastic for Skoda I wonder?

na the key is a no go but this yanker can deal with the lever at the seat! lol

no offence taken pinkskud! lol

do try and fix the boot, like i said when your next down the scrappies just look for a mk2 golf and take the boot apart on that, its a p!ss easy job to do, and i know a few people who have snapped their yankers so dont leave it just like that
