Simply amazing... might buy the DVD.

It's impressive, but all very much common sense that is open to all road users.

I like the way he really slows and checks whether he's been seen at junctions/redlights.

That was something I'd been considering and an animal running out would not have stood a chance, however he was in the centre of the road along the bit with parked cars so car doors opening or people stepping out could have been dealt with. I suspect it all comes down to risk management and weighing up what is likely to present itself versus the urgency of the call.

Generally people don't just step out from between parked cars they would have to come across the pavement or verge and between the cars to get to where he was driving if he saw something moving towards the road he'd have knocked the speed off.

I commented on another forum about his use of siren as its almost constantly on yelp which is ok in town but the other drivers would react better sometimes if the siren noise is changed or even turned off near some hazards. But then anyone can find fault from the comfort of their computer chair or indeed the passenger seat.

a good run and shows the thought processes behind a responce run brilliantly. Theres so much to think about and thats as well as thinking about the "job" you're en route to.

It's good for describing what thought processes he's going through on a basic blue light run, but there's a lot of waffle on there.

In a real time pursuit situation he would have to report his speed, the traffic conditions, the weather conditions, pedestrian activity, and every turn he takes on the route including road names and direction of travel. and also taking note of every traffic violation that the target vehicle was committing along the way, whilst also trying to direct other units to intercept the target. It certainly aint easy. The actual advanced driving commentary would not be used at all.

The yelp is usually used for the slower sections and approaching hazzards (eg Traffic lights etc), however generally just the change in tone will sometimes make people sit up and look, so it doesn't always matter which tone is in use at the time. During the daytime, swicthing the tones off could cause problems, as people won't hear you and generally most people going through a green light never check whether it is actually clear. If however he just could not go anywhere, as could have been the case when he turned left of the roundabout, where he said "Somethings happened here, let them sort themselves out", then switching off the siren will ease pressure on them.

The longer tone is better for faster paced driving, but at high speeds it can't be heard that well anyway.

It was a very good commentry, but very typical of a Police Instructor, as someone else said all that would go out the window if involved in a pursuit, which is where the commentrys are used.
