How to transfer tv signal to other rooms

Featured Replies

How to transfer tv signal to other rooms....we have looked at the wireless option but have been told that wireless PC networks will cause interference to them....and some where I can remember some one saying about the tv signal could be sent down the mains supply in the house using special senders/receivers ...but do you think I can find any  does anyone know if there are any out there.

TIA

I'd just run some coax myself. If it is upstairs we do it in the loft and use an SLX powered booser up there to distribute the signal to 3 TV's

What is it you want to distribute?

Sky , freeview , terrestrial , something else?

Just terrestial so the other herberts can use their digiboxes in their rooms ....trouble is I have a HIGH gain aerial with a mast head amp just to pick up freeview from a transmitter a long way away, so the source has to be from downstairs, we have weyrock floors and I don't want mini trunking running along the ceiling, up the walls or going round outside so the only way is wireless if we can find one that works :D

You can probably find something that will pass an analogue signal but I don't think you'll retransmit the full RF spectrum so that digiboxes will work ok.

Where does the aerial cable run at the mo?

Is it possible to get a distribution amp in the loft?

Thats the big problem, at the moment it has a masthead amp run from right next to the digibox as the signal is so weak (no digital for Marlborough until 2010) so it would have to run from downstairs.

Looks like I will have to look at ways to get a cable through somehow. or stick an aerial in the loft with an amp on it and hope

Does the cable run through the wall to the lounge , or does it go through the loft at any point?

It would be easy enough to run a new drop lead from masthead amp via the loft and then back down the outside of the house and in through the wall at the end

I used these for ages without problem.

Buy DigiSender X2. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for TV and video senders.

Think I still have them somewhere so if you like I'll dig them out and bring them next wek Rob.

They don't transmit the raw TV signal only what is being read via the Scart piggy back so may not be entirely what you need.

Thanks for the offer Stu...but for what we want to happen we will have to run coax up to the rooms......but I may try a high gain aerial in the loft to see what happens

I was looking at doing something very similar. Looking like I'll just have to run extra coax too, to achieve what I'm after.

My Parents place doesn't have any freeview officially, but like I said, an ariel in the loft with an SLX amplifier/splitter does the job really well. All channels in all rooms :)

Just make sure you get an aerial designed for use for freeview rather than a cheapy one as they have a different design and usually better reception due to this.

Rob, are these what you are after NETGEAR Powerline Networking

Seem expensive and no experience of them. I currently use a digi sender like Stu posted which relays my Sky digibox signal upstairs, but will do anything that is scart compatible. A nice and cheap solution and the only thing which interferes with it is the microwave (which might be more of a reflection on the el-cheapo microwave that the network!). Wireless network doesn't interfere with it and nor do the DECT phones.
