:) After having owned and driven these old Skodas for 18 years it's refreshing to see they are beginning to gain the respect they deserve. When you look beyond the jokes and look deeper you'll see that these old Skodas really are fantastically well engineered cars.

The Favorit was and still is by some a VERY, VERY under rated car. Yeah the interior is a bit flimsy, but they drive well, are economical, and well built where it really matters. They offer masses of room for the size too. Compare the rear seat space of a Favorit to the original FWD Octavia. It's very much a landmark in Skodas history....first FWD, last car designed soly by Skoda, first car to gain VW influence [1993 on].

Old Skodas are definately not perfect and have their faults but in my opinion they ROCK!

And worth remembering it was Clarkson himself who gave that great review. I can still remember it too - to paraphrase: "If I was 17 and looking for a cheap fun car I couldn't go far wrong with the Favorit"
Can't remember that one

I was talking about Chris Goffeys road test review

Yeah the interior is a bit flimsy

The last Favorits did improve slightly, better seats, door trims etc.

I've often wondered if it was possible to fit the top part of a Felicia dash to a Favorit.

As you are probably aware, the bottom half of the Felicia dash is straight out of the Favorit.

From what I gather this is already the case :)

look at the interest in the 110 and 120 especially on here, old enough to remember them new, maybe not the best, but did have a certain something, wish skoda would do a retro one like the mini or fiat 500,even just as a prototype,to see what they could come up with.:)

Yup, couldn't agree more - I grew up when the jokes were at the 'hight' but always had a soft spot for 'em......

Would love to see a retro 110R, if that pile of cr@p Trabant (some peeps actually like these) can consider going retro, i don't see why Skoda couldn't do the same.

btw, I think the concept Trabi looks fantastic even if it's only in toy form.

I think the question of which is the best car comes down to which do you see most of on the road...

I can't remember ever seeing a Lada on UK roads or a Proton of that age.

I guess you only tend to notice cars if you know about them though. Before I got my Favorit I never remembered seeing one on the roads, but now I have one I've spotted them all over.

Last Lada I saw on the road was in Leeds centre about 6 months ago. That's the only on I remember seeing in ages though. My dad had a lada but I don't really remember it. My maternal granddad also had one. I think the appeal was the brand new on the road price.

Rarely see any old Proton MPIs these days

They used old Mitsubishi powerplants didnt they?

Haven't seen any Ladas at all.

Seen a fair few Favorits though.

I may even have to buy a RWD skoda one day :D

Haven't seen any Ladas at all.

Rumour has it that many remaining ones have been shipped abck home where they're worth more.

My m8 has an old Proton, there's a Lada Samara 2 doors away, i haven't seen a Favorit lately. I think it's all down to what dealerships are or were local to you.

I'm torn between the Proton and Favorit, the Proton is much more refined, has a superior Mitsubishi engine and very nearly had a tie up with VW.

I think the jury is still out on my choice.

Will have to get in there soon. Prices are already rising, and numbers of good examples are dropping. Would love one myself but only problem would be the cost and effort of keeping it in great condition - would be a shame for me to get one and run it into the ground - although I suppose that's what I intend to do with my Favorit, but intend to get either another Favorit or a Felicia after this.

Aye it was fitted with The Trumpet!

Seem to be a few round here. Must be a really pikey area ;)

Hmmm can you expand on that? *WHY* are they "pants" exactly? Have you ever driven them? You can't just say something's pants without justification. I could say the VRS is pants ;)

Even Jeremy Clarkson is reputed to have praised the Favorit (never seen the program people refer to myself), I think the only things people have said he was disappointed with was the petrol gauge going up and down everywhere and the car not being able to go over 100 MPH or something. And we all know how opinionated Clarkson is - and his hatred for Ladas and Caravans etc.

Well my friend did have the one before the Felicia i think?? N reg?

Was a laugh - lol

Why don't you pi$$ off to the Max Power forums if all you want to do is go on about how your remapped Fabia VRS can pi$$ all over Leon Cupra's, Golf GTI's, Lambo's etc....

This forum is for enthusiasts of all types of car not just modded 'fast' ones... there is more to car ownership than just how fast it is... maybe you will start to appreciate this one day when you have a mortgage, a kid, have started to shave etc......

any how back on topic, thet REALLY should produce a retro 110R in a similar way which fiat have done with the 500,it would have to be rear engined tho, none of this ford cop out like the fwd fake cr4p RS2000

Okay

Try the scrapyard for your motor if you wana be like that

Snap

There are loads of those Protons still floating around in S London, they are very reliable and good on motorways. The roadholding seems to be pretty dodgy in stock form - I drove a friend's one a few times and wasn't very impressed after my Favorit, but it pulled OK and gave no trouble whatsoever even when the mileometer was well past 100,000 miles.

No I haven't bid, there's one bid from someone else and 32 mins left.

Edit: I'm currently the high bidder, more money wastage :D lol.

Will have to get my scanner drivers installed. I doubt I'll be sued for copyright violation if I accidentally scan and stick it on the net.
