Civic - what a nice car.

Featured Replies

Hi guys..

As some may have read, my Fabia is at the local Skoda dealer after getting hit by a guy doing a red light stunt.

First i had a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 HDI. 1 month old and 1100km when i got it. What a barge - i mean - it`s a comfortable car and all, but way too big and soft for my liking.

I asked if i could get a different car, and have now been given a 1 month old Honda Civic 1.8 Sport with 1500km on the clock. What a nice ride it has, smooth petrol engine with enough power low down. I`m really surprised - would like one, but a bit out of my price range. I can now understand the people who have switched to a Civic.

BTW: My car is damaged for around £7000.

Drove a Civic 1.8 as a hire car - it had about 300 miles on the clock before we did a 700-mile round trip. The engine was really tight when we got it, but nice and free-reving once we gave it back! My main driving experience was that it was a nice place to be as a driver (if a little too keen to go with the whole 'futuristic' thing), but an extremely dreary place for passengers - especially in the back where all you have is the C-pillar for company...

Oh dear - hard luck about the old car.

I agree with the civic ;) - Prob best not to mention them on here ...

Agreed. There is a hissy-fitting member following my posts...

I'm a 1.8 Civic-hater, out and proud!

The engine is perky and frugal but other than that, the car has no redeeming features. Nearly 2 bloody years of them as hire cars, grrrrrrr...

I know - but i posted in "General Car Chat", so I don`t really care. ;)

I like it, and other people also - if someone has a problem, find another thread to look at.

Sister in law has Civic Type S GT. Looks really nice inside and out. Top quality feel inside. Not driven one though I've been told it handles nicely, and is more sophisticated than the last civic

I've had a bog standard one as a courtesy car and a decent test drive in the new type r. The type r was fun but they all suffer from an ugly rear end with shockingly poor visibility. I'm not fon of the 'ultra modern' cabin either but they were both well screwed together.

My last car was a civic as well and that didn't squeak or rattle at all 8 years down the line.

Not keen on the Civic to be honest, they have gone back to the old torsion beam suspension unlike the mk1 which was excellent.

Handling is not as good, nowhere near the benchmark standard of the ford focus suspension setup even the golf is not as good, (even though vw basically pinched the ford idea).

It looks odd to me too, why put a silly spoiler in the middle of the back window?

I've got a Civic 1.8 ES at the mo.... it may be replacing my Octy!

Initial impressions - it uses more petrol than I thought it would (only getting about 38mpg) and it seems to have a few blind spots - the pillars are massive! The one I'm driving is 11 months old and done just under 10k.... doesn't feel as perky and peppy as I thought it would!

After having driven it a couple of days - one thing is for sure - I need a TURBO!!

I need some power low down for everyday driving. This is not the Civic`s fault, just generel N/A cars.

But my god it feels good when playing near the redline - it just begs to get ragged.

Didn't really get on with the 1.8 TBH and thought it was a daft idea giving it 6 gears. Why? You just spend a lot of timing changing gear, for no apparent reason. As Caz says, it didn't seem that frugal either, which I thought would be the main reason for it

Liked the way it was put together and the attention to detail but I don't think I'd ever buy one based on the rear and 3/4 visibility. I like the design, but it has to actually be practical :)

Steve

Well, i have driven both the new type r and the 1.8, both cars a jolly nice place to be :)

Im thinking the futuristic dash will look very old in a couple of years though. Function over form for me so the fancy lights etc don't really appeal.
