Any Java Script/CSS Experts?

Featured Replies

I have designed a menu for a website which used JavaScript and CSS, the problem I seem to have is locating it on the page correctly.

As per the attached screenshots it appears to change it position on the screen for some reason, at home on Safari it's offset right and behind, Windows at home is perfect, but Windows at work it's offset right again.

Can't work out why. All menu code etc. is attached if anyone can help.

Thanks.

That's a horrible menu system. And if the user has JavaScript disabled they can't get to any other page on the site as they can't see any of the links. Google will also not index the site properly as it's all JavaScript links.

But for the issues; the Safari one looks like a z-index issue. Your home computer is running Vista, so likely the newest IE, which implements the Box model a lot better than 6 and below. Which is the issue in the work screenshot. You should find Firefox and Opera will display it the same as your home computer too.

The code really confuses me, so sorry I can't really be of more help.

thanks for the help, think I will tell the client the menu is a no-go and will just use standard html links.

If you want to keep the dropdown style menus but not rely on JavaScript to sort it all out you could go for something like the Suckerfish option:

A List Apart: Articles: Suckerfish Dropdowns

Son of Suckerfish Dropdowns | HTML Dog

Which will be more Google friendly and a lot easier to maintain. Unfortunately it still requires some JavaScript to function; though doesn't render the entire thing useless if it's disabled.
