How long does your Octy take to warm up?

Featured Replies

Only reason I ask is mine seems to take ages. And on colder days the temp gauge hardly moves?

Which is completely different to the other cars in my family, both cars seem to get warm quickly and stay around the 90 degree mark, even when driving there temp gauges don't drop, where as mine if I am driving along goes back down again?

Does the Octavia have an over efficient cooling system or something?

No

Mine is the same as your other cars :)

It gets up to 90 degrees in 4-5 mins and stays there!

Hello,

I guessing now but I think my 1.9TD takes about 15 to 20 mins before the temp guage hits 90c.

Obviously it depends on the outside temp and the sooner the engine reaches its optimal temp the better.

I would suspect either the guage it not reading properly or the thermostat is not closing, assuming they still have thermostats and not some okey cokey biscuit barrel computer controlled twoddle that will cost a a fortune to fix!

I don't think there is a problem with my car, as if I am in traffic or use it a bit longer distance it'll rise to about 90 degrees. And it doesn't overheat.

Just though it weird that my temp gauge hardly moves on these cold mornings, like when I get to work 10 miles away its only a little above the stop? And even if It does get up to 90 in traffic as soon as I start going at pace it'll drop down again. Spose its cold out!

The sensor could be broken?

I thought they all just sat at 90 degrees? (Petrol octy)

Mine goes to the 90 mark after about 4-5 mins and sits there.

As above, not long 4-5mins

The dash is @ 90 after 4 miles or so (cold outside now), BUT

the oil gauge starts to rise after (a long) 10 miles!

When freezing up to 20 miles, also depending how hard you are driving. (I slow if oil is not on temp)

Some weeks ago I drove a Felicia for one day and that took 26 miles before it was 90 degrees!!! (1.3i)

Lovely car btw, since it doesn`t have te stupid ESP build in :P

(sideways trough corners again after a very long time)

But to the point again, it is the G26 sensor right?

I changed it for 2 years ago. (red light came on after start, got irritating)

My guess it that sensor needs replacement, since your engine isn`t different from others.

Asked the dealer already?

ive had problems with mine aswell, take a good 15 min to get near 90, and sometimes when it gets to around 80-85 it will then drop down to around 60-70, and then it will get to 90 and stay there :S

mine takes ages aswell but then diesels do tend to take longer, usually aound 5 miles or 15mins to full 90degrees showing

Dervs run a lot cooler than petrol.

Replace your thermostat it stays open all the time.

Mine goes up to to 90c in about 4-5 minutes, even quicker if I have to join a dual carrage way straight away.

Normally leave it at least 10 minutes before getting past 3k rpm or flooring.

Cheers George, sounds exactly like the thermostat is stuck open!!

Where is the thermostat on the Octavia, and how easy is it to replace?

about 5 mins for me

Mine is quite quick... between 3 and 5 minutes for the water to get up to 90. The oil takes much longer though (which you might not realise if you dont have an oil temp gauge). My oil takes about 10-15 minutes to get up to temperature.

Mine goes up to the 90 mark after about 4-5 mins and stays there.
