Cracking noise when going over bumps in a bend

Featured Replies

I've borrowed the description from the "recalls and faults" section as it seems i am not unique in having this problem.

However i wonder if anyone can pin the cause down: a rather large "cracking noise" either when going over bumps in a left hand bend or when aggresively entering a smallish roundabout (RH traffic) where there is a very distinct "right-left" motion at speeds that stress the car but not the tyres! ;)

The noise occurs singularly but can happen several times during one journey. It comes from the righthand side of the car and if pushed i would say it sounds more like mid-rear.

Would appreciate any input as the car is once again going back to the dealers (for a cracked instrument panel:mad:) and last time the expert opinion on the noise was "dunno, we couldn't find anything!"

Thanks.

Well, there is always the possibility of it being the ARB droplink(s), ARB bushes, ARB broken collars or maybe even the good old TCA rear bush(es). Surely your Skoda dealer has already checked all these known weak areas - how old is your car and how many miles?

Dealer says "dunno, we couldn't find anything". In short car has been serviced, checked and supposedly test driven without them being able to identify a fault. However since they managed to make the leaking doors problem worse  at their first attempt my confidence is not exactly high ;)

Car is 10 months old, has done 21000km and has been driven "smoothly" :o (fuel economy being the key!)

Well as the car is only 10 months old and run 21000km, I'd guess that it will not be the ARB collars or the droplinks, so from my list that just leaves the TCA rear voided bushes or the ARB bushes - or anything else that I have not mentioned!

It's not any of those things I'm afraid, if you have the same noise I think you have. Several people (including myself) have this issue and have thrown parts at it to no avail.

There's a thread in the ask a tech section named something like "knocking on undulating roads" which covers it.

Even new cars just off the production line were proven to make the noise too. It's poo. :(

Mines cluncks too, same place, bugs my head in

Well had a chat with the service boss today. Car is booked in on the 10th of March, guy was squirming a little due to the previous "doors" incident and so a meeting with the Skoda sales manager has been booked for the same day to discuss my disillusionment with Skoda/VAG and how that may affect my future purchasing plans (since the dealership does the whole VAG range) :D

Coupled with the strong(ish) consumer protection laws over here it should be quite a fun day ;)

If they do solve the noise, i will of course post the cause of it (and solution) here. Now to find that "ask a tech" thread that i missed completely during my surfing of the site :o:thumbup:

I have a creaking noise when the car rolls in reasonably steady bends or when going over speed humps on one side etc. The noise comes from the rubber 'wedges' on the tailgate! I've tried all sorts of adjustment to stop it but the only thing that seems to work is to back them right off. I even bought new blocks cos the old ones were mashed, and it still creaks. Its due for service in the next few days so i'm gonna see if the dealer can do anything with it!

If they do solve the noise, i will of course post the cause of it (and solution) here.

Please do. Many of us on here have come to a dead end with this one. The dealer answer was the usual 'they all do it'. Yes, perhaps they do, but that still doesn't make it ok. :thumbdwn:

Mine does this as well....I just live with it.
