Thing is with my car is it gets driven quite hard, trackdays etc. Poor thing has had quite a hard life. :o

I know from the number of brake pads I go through and the chassis problems I've had that I don't exactly go easy on mine either. Admittedly I might not abuse the car as much as you do yours but then the OP might not either.

i don't have the 2871r i have the gt2x but there is no difference between the LHD and RHD turbo's.

I thought the manifolds were different between LHD and RHD.

As Bengie says the turbo is the same

You're just not trying hard enough. :P;)

Not had as many problems with Dave`s old bus as you have with yours Des, perhaps im not driving it hard enough.....all i will say is now the fitting has been tidied up it runs just fine......."Impossible" to say how long it will last though:confused:

You are joking, no problems with Dave's old car.

I think his car was off the road longer than it was on.

Hang on, I can see a common denominator with my car and dave's old one. :rubchin:

Go on then enlighten me:confused: or is it "impossible" to say....lol, must admit if i spent that sort of money i would have expected a better job:rolleyes:

Save your pennies and get the Jabba IHI kit fitted.

Far less faffing around.....I am biased however!

Great power from 2.5-3k up to 6-7k, keep it tuned down to 300bhp and you'll be fine!!

I have had no reliability issues with any of my hardware, other than coilpacks, and water pump going. I did however change the gearbox before that went bang with the extra power/torque.

Where is the fun in that. ;)

Says he with a diesel gearbox as backup/insurance. :P

PS: May I join this club if my new head & injectors get me above 300bhp? :D

IHI does seem like a good off-the-shelf conversion for a reliable 300bhp :)

Jas, stop it.....you are begining to sound desperate.

Just that all the IHI Octy's I have been in are, how shall we say it......boring.

Leeboys sounds more like it but I haven't had the pleasure.

The IHI is twice the price tho!

My car gets very well looked after but I do feel sorry for it after the ring trips. Last year my mate detsroyed a Honda 2litre V-tech (the unburstable ones) with a drag race on an unrestricted bit in Germany. He had to come home in a Skoda! So satisfying! Dont want mine to fail after taking the mick so much

Thanks for all your comments folks, got a few calls to make and then try and find that credit card :D

Also I belive good spool up can be found within a 1000 rpm higher than the KO3 when good large induction pipes, manifold and a three inch downpipe are used.

Will keep adding to this tread with any progess, I'm still in that "why are you spending more money on that car" stage!

Another fan of the Jabba IHI kit. I spent ages researching before going the Jabba IHI route when building the car. I like many had Imprezas before & I just wanted to get away from that all or nothing power. The big kick when the turbo finally wakes up is great for the fun factor, makes the car feel exciting but dosent make for a quick road car & stresses the rest of the car, likewise big power figures are wonderful for bragging rights (pub talk) but often come with laggy old engines. I have had the IHI for a few years now & its proved a very easy car to drive quickly & incredibly reliable, I have tested it on a few Cannonball type events & has proveed an excellent mix for driving on the twisties as well as straight line drags. Its also quite acomplished on the track.

My advice is try out a few cars before you decide, have a good look at the RR graphs, you need good early power & a very wide power band, a graph that just climbs up & up like walking up a hill is useless for everyday driving.

IMO dont be talked into going much above 300 bhp, about 320 is the max for the gearbox & standard internals, I ran 350 & stripped 3rd gear on the old 5 speed box, also a decent clutch will be essential.

Lastly welcome to the money pit they call tuning. Ive probably spent around 25K above the purchase price & have a car that I will be lucky to get 8-10 for when its sold later this year but hey ho, it has to go to make room for for the next toy ;)

My name has been mentioned so I thought I should put in an appearance. A common theme here appears to be issues with reliability. So far, my IHI conversion is fine and dandy - 318 bhp and an ar*e kicking 375 ftlb of torque all on a five speed LSD'ed box, no issues so far after 10K in a year. I do have a slight problem with the engine though in that it uses oil faster than a chip shop, so much so the dip stick will drop from Max to under Min during a 20 minute spell on a track :D.

As for driveability, the engine pick up well pulling nicely at 40mph in 5th up an incline but as typical with any sort of severely modded engine, boost does come off and on quick suddenly with only slight movements in the throttle. I should point out that the engine is not standard and this combined with the IHI blower is the reason behind the vast expanse of torque the engine delivers. 3rd and 4th are probably the most satisfying gears to use and it is staggering how quickly you can cut through a convey of traffic on a A road; the shortest of straights become a opportunity to despatch a car or two especially given that these days we all tend to drive far to close to each other so you usually have to commit to passing two to three cars and a lorry at a time :D.

p.s. it wasn't cheap though so your best bet is to wait until such cars come on the market, Q's 300+ Octy was eventually sold at a knocked down rate of less than £7K.

Genuine question guys, considering the ammount of money you have spent getting 300bhp+ would it not have made more sense to have spent that money on something else such as an Evo, M3 or similar?

I dont think so, I had a 300 bhp Scoob, all bang & go but horrid to drive, My Octy will eat the M3 for breakfast, the 4x4 on mine helps on the twisties but I can take even de restricted ones on a Motorway (not English)

Theres also the stealth of a Skoda thats worth a fortune :D:D:D

I could've bought a very nice M5 (E39 model) for the money I have spent on my Skoda - that does include buying it from new!

Reverse snobbery I believe it is called!!!!:thumbup:

People don't expect a Skoda to light its wheels up at 60mph in the dry when you floor it in 2nd and again when changing to 3rd at 90:D:D

Quite satisfying:)

Mine wont do that, perhaps its the 4WD that helps.

The wallet is opening. cough cough

Go on, treat yourself, call it an early Christmas present

Massive power is one thing, but being able to use it in a 'drive it every day' kind of way is another.

What the Jabba IHI kit gives you is a very healthy 300-350 bhp with extremely driveable characteristics to match. You don't need to rev the nuts off it to get a good spread of power/torque.

Other companies & turbo combinations may offer more 'bhp' but in the real world you don't want to be doing 5-6k all the time just to be on peak power......

to me steve that sounds effing useless  so even in the dry at nearly NSL it'll wheel spin? how useful

and stuart a good wide power band with oodles of low down torque is all well and good when you have the traction for it but i think a troque/power curve like Eddy's or Des's would suit a FWD car far far better.

but thats only my opinion of course :)

VERY!

Everything in moderation, too many people drone on about how they struggle with 'getting the power down'.... FFS...... drive properly and you can!

If you want to spin them you can, but it's your choice to do such a thing.

Everyone’s throttle pedal has more than an on/off setting!!

Driving a fast car fast is an art, but any idiot can just drive fast......

My opinion of course.
