Think it's time for me to join this club but had a very pricey quote off Jabba today considering I've already got the following fitted:

Pro Alloy FMIC

Jabba induction kit

Jabba boost controller

Bailey DV 30

Blueflame turbo back exhaust

I'm now looking at doing the work myself and have found the awesome IHI VF34 Turbo for £450 notes brand new including delivery. Has anyone fitted all the items required themselves and towed the car down afterwards for the remap?

Also not sure exactly what else is required - obviously S3 MAF, Exhaust Manifold, Turbo down pipe, Turbo intake pipe, Larger injectors and uprated fuel pump. If someone could compile a list so I can price this upgrade it would be much apreciated.

I've done a sub 9 minute lap of the Nurburgring but this years target will be 8:30! :D

Cheers guys.

Have a look at the classifieds on cupra-net usually quite a few bits you need for sale over there.

Stuff you've not mentioned includes:

Custom boost pipework

Custom Oil lines

Custom Coolant lines

Someone who can fabricate the exhaust

New clutch and flywheel

Hose clips, fasteners, washers, gaskets etc...

And a nice diff too?

I think Id be looking at a different car personally.

Think it's time for me to join this club :D

Cheers guys.

Ok, had a very helpful PM off Steevie and am put off the DIY route on an IHI turbo. There's just too much messing around, modding and replacement of parts especially when Garrett do the eliminator series. Garrett do a kit for £1100 including a GT28RS turbo that will slot in to the existing turbos possition and will join up with all standard connections - manifold, turbo down pipe, induction ect.

GT3 TURBO - Premier supplier of stock and performance turbos

This should produce a marked improvement but with the addition of a high flow manifold (50% higher flow than standard for an extra £200), S3 induction parts and improved fueling approx 340BHP should be possible and I only want around 320 BHP :D

What do you think? Its within my budget, is far more simple and I can fit it myself. Also Awesome GTI use the GT28RS in ther APR turbo upgrade so a mapper experienced with this unit is local to me.

Both are popular choice mate so if you think that the GT28 will be better as you can fit it your self then go for it IMO

Thats the GT2860 mate, what you really want is the GT2871rs like the one in my black beasty:cool: needs to be mated with a 6 speed box though and a decent boost controller

Really dont want to fit a six speed box - not yet anyway. Would rather have the torque limited by the remap. I did look at the GT2871RS. Whats the difference in terms of turbo lag and power delivery?

ATP do a gt2871r based eliminator kit :)

I though that the ATP was only for LHD bengie or have i made that up?

you've made that up, either that or my car has secretely been converted  :rubchin:

So you've got one of these then? more info please! I dont see the point in my case of running a GT2871r when the 2860RS will run 350BHP. But how easy are these kits to fit and what induction pipe work are you running?

Just for info, the kits I was looking at are ATP kits, GT3 Turbos are a UK supplier.

I wasnt sure as i though i read somewhere that you had to grind the turbo housing slightly to make it fit with out rubbing.

Having said that though i do read my mate Practical Performance Car mag a lot so might be from a different car

My advise to you is DON'T BOTHER, cos that's all it will be and you will never get the power and turbo delivery you are after.

Spend your money on a first rate, totally adjustable suspension, better brakes and pads, bigger anti roll bars, strut braces, lighter wheels, better tyres, poly bushes, ATB Diff, Forge quick shift, lighten the car as much as possible, driving lessons.

Save yourself a whole load of grief. Good luck.

I think most of this is already done, its a pretty sorted car!

Have you fitted a turbo to yours then? because I dont understand your statement. The 1.8t is supposed to respond very well to the aplication off a higher volume turbo. As for power and delivery surely this depends on the map and some of the dyno plots with these kits appear smooth and progresive.

Got all the things you mentioned above apart from the diff and removing weight - its an every day car as well as a track car :D.

i don't have the 2871r i have the gt2x but there is no difference between the LHD and RHD turbo's.

I've had the GT28/71r fitted in the past.

Problems are:

4K spool up

Hoses come of with high boost.

High EGT's

Broken gearboxes and diffs

Downpipe and Cat problems, no cat mapping problems.

Boost spike problems.

under bonnet temps.

Cracks in manifolds due to heavy turbo

Broken manifold/turbo bolts.

These are just some off the top of my head, loads more. It's just a money pit but it's your money if you think it's all worth it.

Cheers for that Des, I really dont know what to do now. I want more power for my Nurburgring trip in July but more importantly its gota make it there and back! I wasn't going to have it mapped to its maximum potential so boost shouldn't be too high, gerarbox and diff should take it and egt's ect should be within limits.

There are a lot of "should be's" in that statement

Why can't the ring be in this country and I'd map its balls off!

I've done nearly 20k on my GT30 which spools up before 4k and the only problem I've suffered from your list is one boost hose that persistenly popped off but that was sorted long ago with a redesigned hose and clamp.

I think they can be reliable and useable every day.

Thing is with my car is it gets driven quite hard, trackdays etc. Poor thing has had quite a hard life. :o
