MP3 CDs

Featured Replies

Anyone got any tips on how you burn an MP3 CD for the Octavia? The methods that I know all produced CDs that either didn't play or the player said "disc error" and spat it out. Rather than wasting any more discs I figured I would stop and ask for assistance.

Do the files need to be in a specific directory structure or data rate? Most of mine are at 384Kbs. The radio instruction manual does not appear to give much detail on it.

thanks

Paul

Assuming you have a model year 07 Octy, (not mp3 before then I believe) I can only say that I burn mine at 128K and have experienced no problems. I should add that there was no folder as I burned them to root i.e. straight to the CD.

It might be that 384K is too much for it - as it is indeed for most low cost mp3 players.

I suggest you convert them to 128K as it is likely that they won't sound any better anyway - due to being in a car.

have you closed/finalised the cd?

I have mine in folders and it works very well, there is a cue in the stream display to flip between folders which saves hassle.

Files must be in MP3 format (WMA etc will not be accepted) and must be in the CD player in the stream unit (the autochanger in the boot will not work)

Hope that helps, good luck!

The HU must either be a Stream MP3 (written on front of hu) or Audience otherwise you cannot play MP3 disks. For the audience you can have 6 mp3 disks in the HU, for stream mp3 only a single disk loaded in the HU.

Mine plays any format MP3 file I have thrown at it including 128K, VBR, 320K etc. even the album art embedded in the track doesnt affect playback.

I just burn the disks as a normal Data CD in nero, onto the cheapest media I can find. Put each album in a separate folder to make navigation easier.

ok -many thanks. It could be the data-rate then as I have tried most of the suggestions above. Definitely the CD is closed. I will try it tomorrow and report back

bit rate sounds the likely culprit 384kbps seems an odd figure to me! I guess the file is VBR? Might be worth checking with some CBR mp3 files

That's weird, my 57 reg vrs (08 model?) plays mp3 disks in the autochanger without any issues. I'm fairly sure I've got the Stream MP3.

Make sure you burmn them as data and not cd audio (cda) tracks if your only getttint 10-15 on a disc your doing them as cd audio

I have a 08 Octavia with Audience, and the manual says that the bitrate for MP3 CDs should be max. 320kbps.

On my first try I forgot to finalize the CD, and it didn't work. I've burned a few CDs, 192-320kbps and they work great. I suggest you create folders, if you create a disc with 192kbps, it'll hold over 100 songs. With folders, it is easier to find the song you want to listen. It will work just fine if you just burn them to the root though, no need to create any folders. It just makes the searching a bit easier.

I have ripped all my CDs at 320kbps, and created another folder to where I converted them to 192kbps. 320kbps for home, 192kbps for car. You can hear the difference at home through a quality stereo, but with all the other noise in the car 192kbps is the way to go. Way better than 128kbps, but the difference to 320kbps is unnoticeable. The CD will hold about 40 songs more at 192kbps as opposed to 320kbps.

Hope this helps
