what is a fabia based on? polo???

Featured Replies

ive been told the fabia is based on a vw polo am i right in what i hear? what year model would it be?

Dan

Polo yesh,

Bug eyed new one

I read somewhere that the Fabia is a bit of a hybrid between the polo and golf platforms, and read somwehere else it was a prototype platform for the 9n2 polo.

dunno how correct that is.

Skoda's n SEAT's are the normal testbeds for new VW and Audi releases.

The Fabia was the first vehicle released on the shared platform. The 9N Polo and Ibiza Mk4 were then based on the same platform, and released later.

Same has happened this time, with the Mk2. Fabia released first with the Polo and Ibiza revisions coming next year (I think).

First bit correct, second bit not :P

The mk2 fabia is still based on the same platform as the mk1 fabia.

so the next generation will still be based on this current platform too, Why change something that isnt broken ;)

I had always assumed it was the golf at first but I can see the resemblence between the polo and the fabia

Mk3 Ibiza was a cross between golf at front, polo at rear i believe> Rear track was narrow, and handling was - interesting.

Ibiza is bigger than a supermini is it not but falls into that catogary

Because Fabias keep ending up on their roof?

Thats only down to people who dont know how to drive them, sorry to anyone who has ended up on their roof. But ive tried to get mine to point of roof contact and its just not happening.

Those of you who have managed the roof to tarmac relationships you are either very skilled or extreamely brave

I didn't say they'd changed the platform this time, if you re-read my post :P

Just that the Mk2 Fab has been released ahead of its VW and Seat counterparts :)

Just read a few posts on here and you'll see some seem to think its based on a McLaren F1 car.

Get a grip.;)

If you look at the design tab it tells you about some of the differences between the suspension in the Polo and the mk 1 Fabia

Gosh the motoring press LOVED the Fabia when it first went on sale :)

I had assistance from a nice Welsh bank at the side of the road. Learned a valuable lesson from that. Don't try to take a corner like a TWOT. :D

I believe it is the other way round...the Polo is based on the Fabia!

Can't remember where I read this - might be Wikipedia - but apparantly Skoda developed the Polo platform at the request of VAG group.

OK, heres the platforms:

Skoda Fabia / VW Polo / Seat ibiza.... Possibly Audi A2 (although not 100%)

Skoda Octavia 1 / VW Golf 4 / Seat Leon / Audi A3

Skoda Octavia 2 / VW Golf 5 / Seat Leon (New) / Audi A3 (New) / VW Touran / VW Golf Plus / VW Tiguan / VW Eos / VW Schirroco (New)

Skoda Superb (stretched platform) / VW Passat / Audi A4

VW Phaeton / Audi A8 / Bentley GT

VW Sharan / Seat Alahambra / Ford Galaxy

VW Touareg / Audi Q7 / Porsche Cayenne

Don't quote me 100% on these!

Just another reply, first there was the Fabia, followed by the Polo 9N, followed by the Ibiza 6L. All are based on the same platform, and that does mean that all the suspension + steering parts are the same generation - while slight variations in spring/damper/ARB will exist.

Whoops, sorry I've just started a new page!!!
