Any help will be great..!!!!

Thanks

Surely VAG-COM doesn't do anything that would require an EEPROM flash. It isn't that powerful.

I'd say that given the business that you are in you have attempted to correct an A3 and loused it up.

Hhmmm.

Vag com doesnt and couldnt corrupt eprom, sounds like someones been buying kwp2000's off the bay ;)

An eprom flash would be useless now anyway, if it is a flash thats gone wrong then Its a solder job or new ecu.

Unlikely a KWP2000 (it does "only" chiptuning), but it's a safe bet that somebody messed with the cluster. :)

The A3 uses M73 (Magneti Marelli) clusters and as far as I remember the Motorola processors in there are easy to mess up and less easy to fix. Contact somebody "skilled" or get him a new cluster.

If the processor is the one I think, you could actually have to JTAG a new image down to the embedded flash which would require to get the processor up and running before you could do this.

Looks like a new cluster and then maybe attempt to fix the old one when time is on your side.

Now if somebody had tried to de-solder a chip, and got it wrong putting it back that's a whole different ballgame as they could well have cooked the chip in question.

It'll be the cluster for sure. ;)

Ahh so somebody did have a play.

Was going to say I didn't think VAG com could toast a cluster, but others had already said this ;)

From the other forum posts, with my suspicious mind, I'd say someone has been trying to clock the A3 and fooked it big style.

Who's been a busy boy then?

Taken from their website

"We also offer a mileage correction service for repaired or replacement dash clusters which is sometime caused through the battery being flat for long periods of time and also in the event of a failure of some of the vehicles electrical equipment."

What a load of bull....... who's cluster has had it's mileage screwed by having a flat battery for a while ?

This has the potential to be thread of the year! ;)

Good work Stu :P

I've got an eeprom dump you can have for £2000.* :)

*however if the funds never made it to me because the bank had a powercut then ho hum.

Dunno, what with it being stored in a flash/EEPROM chip.

How can I put this... It's not going anywhere.

I pulled out a flash chip at work I programmed up 3 years ago and the data is still there even though it was unpowered.

I think we all know vehicle mileages don't just disappear... ;)

Mine did, the mileage monsters stole it

The only real and honest time you would need to get a mileage changed is if you replaced your dash pod with a second hand one and it showed the incorrect mileage. Anything else came the rear end of a bull and doesnt smell too nice.

Btw johnny G dont mess with the armchair detectives here on briskoda, we have some of the best ones around :P

This thread is well funny, well spotted stu

However had you attempted to write corrupted data to that chip then it would be game over.

Gotta say, this isn't the best advert for the business.

I don't know exactly how the writing works in automobiles, but usual limit for flash writes is something around 200,000 writes (Of course depends very much on the flash chip type). So basically, if you exceed that limit the flash might start to refuse new writes. But no vag-com or new flash dump would help you then :)

So in example, if the car writes the mileage information everytime the ignition is turned off, you could drive 1 mile/1 km drives for 200,000+ times.

But anyway, this was just useless off-topic post from me :)

However had you attempted to write corrupted data to that chip then it would be game over.

You can overwrite a flash/EEProm if you have the tools required, however if it was a write once device or you did something silly to the flash then it would be bust.

Still if I fancy a new dash pod, I know where to get my old one adjusted:rofl:

So that's one forum user that will now need to change his user name and ISP before the next posting!

He is entirely welcome. My concern was the rather sketchy story which involved a VAG-COM accident.

I have seen the same post on some other forums I frequent as well.

would you let this man "correct" your mileage?
