I can't recall anyone mentioning the noise you are experiencing but doubtless someone will pipe up if they can help.

Most of the "worrying until you know what they are" noises from the 1.8T seem to occur at start up - I don't recall seeing anything here about the sort of noise you describe.

No doubt some of the experts will be along shortly.

p.s. Don't mention colour - Denis is a bit sensitive about his Dynamic Blue :eek: Oops! I've said it! car.....

Any advantage in me reposting in the Maintenance section? I was in two minds if I sould have included "the noise" there in the first place.

Oh, and best RS moment to date, was the puzzled looks on the faces of the two lads in the lowered and kited Golf, when they finally drew up at the next set of lights after really let go through the gears for the first time. Worth a years road tax on its own!
