Manchester Police car seizures

Featured Replies

Anyone know anything about any current GMP initiative or something?

I saw the same thing twice today within a mile of home that I've never seen before. A marked-up Vectra had pulled a car over, had a chat with the driver, got a Charles Wilson low loader to pitch, take the car and send the driver on his way. First one was outside my flat so I saw what went on  - E36 beemer, lol - the second I saw as I drove by but looked similar - with CW truck in attendance.

Anyone got any info? Are they deliberately picking up un-taxed and/or un-insured cars via ANPR more than usual? Something to do on a sunday afternoon or just ****ed off with the football yesterday?

Yes, they do have these ANPR initiatives on a large scale, they set-up checkpoints on major routes into the city! ive seen them a few times in blackley.

Seen this regulary around the north west of manchester, sometimes theres a line of recovery vehicles waiting down a side street! Lets hope that they keep it up, main target is uninsured/untaxed cars:thumbup:

There are operations running on a daily bais throughout the GMP area.

You will be amazed at how many times your car is checked in a day via ANPR.

Plus side is that uninsured and untaxed vehicles are being removed from the roads.

I was just surprised that I've not seen it before and then saw 2 in the space of an hour.

I didn't think they could run these schemes very often - there isn't enough storage space for all the untaxed/uninsured cars

What do they need to store? A lot of them end up sold on or crushed. They probably get sent to a contractors compound so thy don't need to worry about the costs anyway.

If uninsured the motorist has £120 towing fee PLUS has to get insurance AND gets summonsed to court for No insurance getting 6 points AND £200 fine.

Vehicles are released once valid insurance is produced. (plus there is a £17 a day storage charge)

If not claimed after 3 months cars are sold/crushed.

Untaxed simiolar except when customer produces a 12 month tax disc this is nocked off the tow charge of £200

Well they normally give owners some chance of redeeming themselves - the info gained via ANPR isn't infallible and the number of dodgy cars running round Manchester must be huge. I'm sure the police could spend all day doing just this and still only scratch the surface.

I know they will seize cars all the time but now and again you get some publicity and a silly name like "Operation **** the Uninsured" or something to go with a few major sightings.
