Temp problems

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm having problems with my temp gauge. Been faulty for about a year or so. sometimes it works some times it just shows cold. The car runs fine no problems with heating it's purely the gauge fault. Any ideas , could it be a sensor fault some where?

Oh my car is a VRS 1.8 Octavia.

Does it show completely cold, or just lower than 90 degrees?

And whereabouts in the country are you? You migt have someone local who would agree to ahve a look at your car with the computer to see what the sensors are reading...

When it's working the needle is bang on 90 ( straight up 12 o'clock ) and never moves either side of it. Then it will just drop of all the way to cold. few miles later back up it goes. Either off or on 90. I'm in mid wales.

Could just be the temp sensor.

snesor , or termostat is your problem

If it's getting warmed up, then randomly giving very low readings, I'd suspect the sensor (probably), or the dashboard voltage controller (not likely, but more likely if other gauges give spurious readings when the temp one does).

vag parts and looks in the s3 engine parts section, thats where i got my sensor from, its the green one.

This is what you want unless it has been modified again. The price may have changed since I bought one a couple of years ago. Any particular reason for not ordering one from a Skoda dealer?

Dual temperature sender (ie temperature sensor) - not AVU/BFQ engines

059 919 501A 4 pin green 20mm - £25.92

Is it possible to get this part from Audi? I seem to remember they offer a 24 month warranty on their parts rather than the 12 month Skoda warranty.

as said above you need a green sensor (old ones are black i think and go wrong often). About 30 inc VAT. Easy to change as well, just whip the engine cover off and its on the right of the head if your looking straight at the engine.

2 min job really, just whip the plug out and the retaining clip and it pulls straight out. You might need a new rubber O ring as well to check it seals...

Mine was randomly jumping from 90 to -30 every few days, didnt display on the dash - only when plugged in, however still enough to set engine management light off.

Hope this helps, kyle
