vRS TFSI to Common Rail TDI?

Featured Replies

Due to the Irish budget the VRS diesel is going to come down in price by a couple of thousand euro and will be 290 euro for road tax compared with 600 euro for the TFSI. This is all due to co2 emissions.

My vRS will be two years old in August and *might* change it for a new one.

Is it worth sacrificing the smoothness of the TFSI for the clatter of a diesel. :P How much smoother are these common rail TDIs?

y E S !!!

Saving a 'couple of thousand euro' would be enough for me, but coupled with the fact that you pay less for diesel than petrol in Ireland, would more than swing it!

Diesel is a nicer drive IMHO.

Diesel is more expensive at the pumps by a few cent at the moment.

Oh my God! It wasn't a few months ago!:eek: You're copying us. I thought only the stupid government in this country were the only ones to charge more for diesel than petrol! IT'S A BLOOMIN' DISGRACE:thumbdwn::thumbdwn:

You haven't got the greedy Labourite faction in as well have you?

Trevor , don't forget the supply and demand rule. If after July there is going to be an explosion of diesel cars won't that put the price of diesel up further (eventually)?

Diesel vRS is suppose to be coming down by 3250 euro.

Petrol going up by 700 euro.

Unfortunately here in Oz we usually pay about 7-8cents/litre more for diesel than petrol too ! Kind of reduces the cost advantage of oil burners.

got a stupid question: should not diesel be always cheaper than petrol? considering lesser refinement, larger volumes (trucks, generators, ships, trains, etc.)

That plus a bi product of cracking oil to make petrol is derv, so essentially it is free while making petrol.

Petrol however is not a bi product of derv as you can crack it less and end up with more derv and very little petrol.

I think increase worldwide demand has made diesel rise. In Ireland when the new tax system is introduced more diesel cars will be on the road and will bump up diesel prices.

I don't think I'll go back to derv, and I much prefered the TFSI to the TDI vRS Mk2s

I thought the petrol was coming down by about that much ? Its going from 30% to 28% VRT.

Btw how can Diesel be more expensive if it takes less refining ?????

Seems to be down to "supply and demand". As said above, if demand for diesel cars goes up here, which it probably will, so will the price of diesel.

As diesel car is for arguements sake 20-30% more economical, therefore the average diesel driver doesn't fill up as often (per mile) as a petrol driver, therefore spends less at the station. Stations need to maintain their overhead and profit margins, and will increase the mark up on diesel as a result.

Or just get greedy on the back of the July changes, a bit like that Statoil garage on the Quays in Dublin.................DAYLIGHT ROBBERY

I can't imagine anyone other than tourists, or the odd culchie getting caught by prices of that place GAFF. When I lived in Dublin, that place was one of the cheapest for fuel.

The only reason diesel is more expensive than petrol is the same reason that unleaded suddenly became cheaper than 4 star - duty.

I believe that there is not a huge amount of refining capability for diesel, it's relatively recently that the amount of diesel cars in the UK has rocketed and the refiners have not been building new plants to meet demand.

Having said that the refinery down the road is building a Bio diesel plant at the moment, perhaps more will be built for future needs.

When I lived in Dublin, the Statoil on the Navan Road (N3) used to be quite cheap too!

Does the CR TDI run easily on biofuel (eg veggie oil)????

Both fuels are taxed at exactly the same rate in the UK.

Any differences are entirely down to the oil companies , and supply & demand.

40% cheaper here in Holland - guess where I'll be filling up ;)
