Black Polish?????

Featured Replies

So now she has a Fabia vRS & I pickup my Octavia Scout tomorrow, same dealer, both cars are Black Magic & I'm thinking......

Whats the score on black car polish? why is polish nearly always white/light in colour?

I'd never clean a pair of black shoes with white/brown polish...? Yes, I know that the car is not made of leather...but you get the drift.

Is there a workable black polish on the market? & would you use it on Black Magic?

I'm all ears!

Melle.

The idea of coloured polish is that it hides the deeper scratches, (to a point) as the polish would be partially left in the scratch so white polish would make it more noticeable.

I've been using T-Cut colour wax, thought it made sense also. But as waxes go it's pretty poor and doesn't last.

When it comes to cars polish and wax are two different things

Polish is meant to remove/hide small scratches and swirls

Wax gives the car paint protection hence why coloured wax's dont mean anything

I've got a black magic Vrs octi and they can be a nightmare to keep clean and can pick up scratches etc like any bodys business.

I have several ways to wax or polish the paint work, but anything by Autoglym is good. Either ultra deep shine, ultra resin polish or extra gloss protection will do the business.

PM if you want any further info etc.

You would use this in the olden days when you had a flat black with no clearcoat. The paint systems on newer cars are more modern and usually have a clear coat (lacquer) over the black paint. So why youd want to use a black polish on a clear topcoat is questionable. Stick to a good quality wax such as Collinite.

Yes, black magic is a mare to keep clean. The paint will need correcting if full of swirls, then claying, and then a decent wax applying. Collinite is supposed to good, I'm a Zymol fan, and used on corrected paint, after HD Cleanse looks amazing.

AG Resin mate will sort the scratches out, some AG gloss over the top and seal it all in with some wax, i would use AG wet spray wax followed by a coat of collinite.

Unless the scratches are through the clear coat laquer there is absolutely no point in getting "coloured" polish? Like a previous post, the coloured polishes are mildly better on older paintwork systems so biased as i know i am i'd use AG ultra deep shine as it's better on dark colours than super resin polish although the super resin has slightly more bite & therefore more likely to remove slightly deeper scratches! I always start with the least abrasive compound & work my way up, that way you don't start taking a layer of paint off just to remove a few marks etc! Once the paintwork is as good as you can get it i would highly recommend sealing it with LifeShine or if you couldn't afford that the extra gloss AG is a good choice, it's almost exactly the same as the trade equivalent "Liquid Hardwax" is good in most cases i'd say for 6 months depending on mileage of course but would not only protect the paintwork a lot more against little marks but would make cleaning the car a whole lot easier as if done properly the dirt will just fall off when it's washed!

  • 2 months later...

Ok, so I have been using Autoglym ultra resin polish and after washing my car for the second time the other day I noticed white marks all over the place (black magic paint). Obviously where some polish had got stuck in a grove or panel join, and giving it a good rub would get it off. My question is how do you avoid this, there must be a better way that going over it again (bearing in mind my arm was about to drop off after all the polishing I did).

Cheers

Try some 3M masking tape.

The car in the pic below is in the process of being masked - windows and aerial done.

Door handles and side protection strips were also covered after the pic was taken.

Oh - and smooth peanut butter is great for getting rid of any polish marks on black trim that are hard to shift. I know you probably won't belive me but do a search!

Use a non abbrasive paint cleaner.

Klasse All In One (AIO) is one of these and cleans, polishes and applys a sealant layer all in one step. It also doesn't mark plastic trim which is a bonus.

You could then top that off with a couple of layers of Colli 915 (or 476s) for that nice wax look and beading.

One treatment like that should see you good for at least 6 months.

More importantly is your wash method so do a search for two bucket method and this will help you avoid putting most the scratches in there in the first place. IMHO get a good Microfibre dreads wash mitt and use that in place of a sponge too.

Sorry is this instead of polish or after?
