Missing rear seatbelts

Featured Replies

Hi All

I bought a 2nd hand fabia estate (2004) that had been used as a company car and I think they had something set up in the boot because the car now has no rear view mirror, rear seat belts (only the central belt) or cover/parcel shelf.

Didn't cause my any problems so far coz I only used to drive on my own or with the Mrs. But now that a baby has come along I need to fit rear seatbelts so I can install the baby's car seat.

Can I just buy belts like in the photo attached and install them myself? Or being a critical bit of safety gear should I only buy new ones and get a garage to install them?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The ISOFIX brackets should still be there, so that would do you until your little 'un is too big to need a child / baby seat, and would be more secure than seatbelts (OEM or aftermarket) anyway. ISOFIX seats are a bit more expensive, but if you're anything like me, you can't put a price on certain things...

And also, I don't know where the law stands as regards fitting your own seatbelts?

Thanks but that doesn't help me much as I already have a childseat to use that requires a belt. Also I would like to put the belts back in for future use when I have adults in the car.

I'd pop down to my local mot station and ask for advice on the legalities of fitting them yourself.

Fitting s/h Fabia rear belts yourself is not a problem, providing you use the correct OEM belts and fittings.

If you buy them from a breaker though its worth considering if the car was in an accident whilst carrying rear passengers, as belts can stretch in a shunt.

ok thanks for the info. I will check to see what fittings I will need and then scour the breakers.
