Meguiars Step 1 - 3. Any good on a silver..?

Featured Replies

If the weather is good this weekend, I'm gonna spend a day and give the car a good clean.

Are Megs step 1 - 3 any good? The paint is in pretty good condition, and I was going to clay it anyway. Therefore is Step 1 needed? Also I've heard that the Carbauba Wax isn't that good. Therefore that leaves me with the middle (polishing) step only

I've been using Autoglym EGP as a sealant, which does a pretty good job but it doesn't seem to last that long. Ideally I would like something I can apply every 6 months and be done with it, but something that is still easy to use.

So I'm looking for recommendations for (mild) polish and a wax please.

Thanks

I just clar bared mine then used steps 2 and three ....no pics but it was quite smooth and shiney

The step 3 wax is a waste of time to be honest and the EGP doesn't bond to some things. Best on Autoglym SRP. If you can only get some wax from the likes of Halfords then go for either Meguiars Techwax or Gold Class which has oils in it to give a lovely deep shine but won't last that long but a not too bad starter.

Thanks for the replies.

Not a bit fan of SRP, so would prefer not to use that. Also I don't care if I use the EGP or not.

Maybe step 2 with Megs wax is the way to go then...

I did my wife's car with Car-Lack 68 polish followed by Collinite 476s Wax one coat of each. Left it a week and then did another coat of Colly.

That was about 6 weeks ago - still looks spot on and water just runs off it.

Very easy to apply and remove both products.

Have a look here

Collinite 476s and Winter Carlack Selant Kit

I use Carlack 68 after claying on my current silver Clio Dynamique (hopefully soon to be a Fabia Tdi Sport), I then use Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic Jett, gives a lovely shine (sorry no pictures). Also, the good thing being in doesn't stain trip and even adds a coat of sealant to treated trim.

Poorboys EX-P sealant is also good and I've had good results with Optimum Car Wax - more so on my wife's metallic green car as it contains a mix of sealant and carnauba wax.

You can't knock Meguiars for good "everyday" car care products.

Not sure of the rules of pointing you in the direction of these products or other forums that can offer more advice and as it's my 3rd post I don't want to get banned :o

PM me if you want some more information.

Using the correct wax for the correct colour of car is key to getting the best results and having not used the Megs 1-3 step I can not comment on this.....

However owning a 'beige' car and having 'detailed' a fair few different cars for customer's I wouldn't hesitate in suggesting Collinite 845 as this is perfect for lighter coloured cars, the finish looks very wet and the durability is incredible......

I have used lots of different waxes recenlty and have put some Chemical Guys Wet Wet Wet Wax on top of my colour recently and it's also a great product, easy on, easy of. Just so you can see some results below is a link to my motor wearing Chemical Guys Wet Wet Wet Wax on top of Collinite 845 and also a link to a Silver BMW 3 Series Cabrio I detailed in Silver wearing Collinite 845:

Baker21's 'superb' Mini Detail.......looking Pureklas?!?!? - Detailing World

UDM VS BMW E46 320i CABRIO........ - Detailing World

I sourced my Collinite from Elite Car Care as they have a great kit on sale for a reasonable price:

Elite Car Care - Collinite #845 Liquid Insulator Wax Detailing Kit

yea wouldnt disagree with you there.

Go for the megs step 1 & 2 after claying the car and then use Collinite after

IMHO Looks good on skoda silver, however I would skip 3 and apply a longer lasting wax such as colli 476 over the 1 and 2.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll have to go do some reading (and buying). Collinite always seems like its recommended, especially on light coloured cars.

Megs says the step 1 is for badly cared for paint, so I'm not sure whether I need this or not. Maybe claying, megs polish and collinite wax will do :)

Thanks!

I didn't clay mine as it's pretty clean and used step 1.

Step one will hide any minor imperfections.
