Looking for sympathy...

Featured Replies

On his way out of the house to school this morning, my son called back to me "Dad- there's a big dent in your new car".

I hoped he was winding me up, but sure enough, some inconsiderate half-wit must have hit my front wing sometime yesterday.

I've only had the car 4 weeks - my pride and joy. 57 plate Elegance hatchback in Storm Blue, 2.0 TDi DSG.

Took it to the body shop earlier today - between 500 and 600 quid for a new wing.:weeping:

My wife doesn't understand why I'm so pi***d off about it. I'm sure you'll all understand!!

Feel for ya mate - Nothing worse.

Sorry to hear about that.Hope you sort it out ok:thumbup:

Yup, you got it.

Nowt worse cos of some stupid clot - who doesn't stop and admit too.

Ours got a small (1st) dent just near mirror where the A pillar comes down. Trouble is I KNOW it's there

We definitely understand.

Sorry to hear your car has been christened, its a sad fact of life, and fully understand your feelings. Women eh! :)

That's not good, hope it gets better soon.

Gutted for you mate. At least it can be fixed. I hate the fact that someone has just left not saying anything without thought of the cost it has just placed on someone. Feel for you.

We parked down a quite dead end road which because its near our town centre has double yellow lines ,anyway i have a blue badge and as i was only going to be there 10 minuets it was going to be ok. The house i parked outside (no front garden) had a door frame leaning towards the house wall .;Yes you guessed it the kid in the house opened the window and it fell onto our Elegance . I know how you feel.

Feel for ya, hope its sorted quickly and smoothly

Sorry to hear that mate.

You have my sympathies :(

bad news. Shame you can;t legislate against useless twunts on the road.

It's not so bad if you ding it yourself. I'm waiting for my first dent. My neighbour thoughtfully supplied the last big one on my previous car. Then she denied it when I mentioned paying for a repair. I don;t know if not knowing would have been better or worse!

Sorry to hear about the dent - especially when it's a new car. My car has a similar dent as Anonymouse - I found it when I picked up my 2nd hand Octavia from the dealer. I was gutted as I wasn't sure if I'd missed it when I was looking at the car or whether the dealer did it after I'd put the deposit down. It's very slight but for a couple of weeks I just kept seeing IT!!! Have let go of it now. Just a car - easier when it's second hand! Even easier after 2 weeks I came to the car to find someone had scraped the paint off the edge of my passenger side mirror!! Also lots of stone chips already! I console myself that as long as it's reliable....

Sorry to hear about the damage to your new car :(

My sympathy to you,: It's even worse, when you have no one to rant to either!

:mad:Empathy to you. Some twunt (yes I like that word too, and I'm allowed to say it!!!) rode his motorcycle into my car last month, when I had 1500 miles on her. He made off, but we got his number and he admitted it to policeduring an interview, I couldnt tpac him at the time as I had my 38 week pregnant wife and 15 month old daughter in the car!

Are you able to do the hairdryer trick on it, or is the damage too bad?

Billy

Sorry to hear the bad news. I had my front wing dented while it was parked in my drive. Did not see it until a day later when I parked in Tesco car park. Saw it just as I left the car to go into the shop so knew it had had to happen while in my drive (I had cleaned the car the day before so knoew it was not there then and had not moved the car since then). After a few questions around the local neighgourhood I eventually found the culprit (kid on a bike-still got no idea how he managed to get the car!!!). Luckily the parents were very good and paid for the repair (although I am sure it only cost around £300 for a new wing fitted and painted and that was in my main dealer- also happens to be a BMW approved bodyshop too). So makes your quote seem a bit steep.

Interesting - thanks for that. The estimate I got yesterday was before they'd priced the actual cost of a new wing. The body shop I went to is part of the Skoda main dealer's group - they do other brands as well. Of course, they did ask the question 'is it private or insurance?'. Wonder if that makes a difference!

Quote seems fine, I just paid my £350 policy excess (to get the money back via insurance etc), on a £316 job for dealing with a 6 inch scratch to my front bumper. £5-600 is ball park.

Ouch..

Sorry to hear that mate.. there are some B******s about who don't care for anything..

hope it works out for you though..

Thanks to all for the sympathetic ear!

I'm just hoping that the body shop do a good job and I'm not left with something that's not 100% as good as the original.

I had a paint job done on my previous car after someone put a nice big scratch in the drivers door. After a few months, the clear coat started to break down and thousands of tiny cracks appears in it. They re-sprayed it, but must only have done the area of the door that had the problem. Several months later, same thing started happening to another part of the door. By that time, the body shop was 'under new management' and wouldn't honour warranty claims from work done under the previous management. Guess what? Same people running the company.

Update on my mishap from a couple of weeks ago - got my Octy back from the body shop today.

They appear to have done a first rate job. New wing fitted, and I honestly can't tell that it's been replaced. Colour match seems spot-on, and paint finish is excellent.

Other than having to stump-up 250 quid insurance excess, I'm a happy bunny again.:)
