Clunk on my Fabia

Featured Replies

changed my Fabia 1.4 8v for a TDI Elegance. All good and a great car except.......

A slight metal clunk or miniscule grinding sound from the front right, difficult to explain it really . Notice it at very low speeds , accelerating below 20mph or when virtually stopped. Is intermitant I think with the noise lasting a second really each time. Have only noticed it with the clutch up with drive engaged.

My dads a mechanic and I was describing it to him, he says it sounds a bit like the cv joints on the transmission may be going?

Cars done 14000 and two weeks from puchase from Skoda Dealer.

I am going to get them to look at it (under warrenty etc) , but just wondered whether any one else had experience of this possible problem.

If it is a CV joint problem, the noise should be more obvious with steering lock applied. :)

I think I had the same problem on my Fabia. There was a grinding noise on the left hand front of the car, I phoned the dealer because I was so worried but he assured me that it was probably a stone between the brake pads and the discs. He said to take it to him if I was really worried, but the noise disappeared after a week and haven't heard or felt anything since! Presumably the stone got in because I have the alloys for the Blackline special edition.

Thanks for the info.

Seems that the noise was more obvious when the car was cold and happens with the clutch up or down. I always seem to notice it on right lock, might be wrong about that though.

Took it to the garage. The head mechanic drove it and couldn't hear it, so I drove it with him in the passenger seat. I heard it but he didn't! He jacked it up and checked around te wheels and underneath, but found nothing out of place.

Apparently because its a diesel and due to power etc you can get a bit of noise sounding like overrun??? on the gearbox.

Still a bit concerned about it, but I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it and see if it develops.

Any other fabia TDI owners comparisons and comments would be appreciated.

This is a very small noise , but nonetheless worrying

Hello there,

I have done 15,000 miles in mine, but I can't say I have noticed any similar noises coming from my car.

So don't let the dealer fob you off with excuses.

I would be surprised at CV joint wear at such a low mileage.

Not noticed anything similar on our Fabia TDI Estate and that's done nearly 50,000 miles so far! I'll keep an ear peeled though and let you know.

Cheers
