autoglym life shine/clay

Featured Replies

when i bought my baby, the dealer was doing a special offer of £99 for the autoglym life shine, so i went for it, and am very happy. However, i've never 'clayed' a car before, and reading the forums here, it seems claying is the dogs bolloc*s..is it worth doing on my car?

Would have thought its not a good idea - I think it would probably strip the "Lifeshine" off.

That's right. If you use a claybar it will strip off the sealer (Lifeshine)

TBH these Life shine products are a waste of time!!

The dealer is still making money @£99!!

IMO..Leave it about 6 months (It will have worn off by then!!)and then clay it , apply a good sealer like Klasse or Poorboys and then a good wax like Collinite.

IMOP If a dealer has offered LifeShine protection (especially if it includes the interior as well) for £99 i'd snap their hands off quick time! I hate to dissagree with fellow Briskodians but LifeShine is the one sealant i'd definately recommend!!! If it only lasts 6 months i'd take it straight back to where you got it applied & ask them to do it again as when i apply it, it is guaranteed for up to 10 years on a new car! If you take into account that you can still wax/polish your car (something you dare not do with Silverseal, Diamondbrite, Supagard etc) i hope you can see the benefits of using this one! I wish i'd taken some pictures now of my vRS before the lifeshine had been applied & after, i have no doubt your minds would have been made up!

The problem us valeters have is the growing number of "Do It Yourself" protection applications? I have no problem with anyone not wishing to be ripped off by main dealer prices as they are indeed "ripped off" but if not applied properly it is no wonder that some of you may think that it's a waste of time/effort/money etc? My advice would be to find a good valeter & have the LifeShine done by them. Not only will you get it done a lot cheaper than a main dealer would charge but IMO a better job all round too!

Am sure a lot of you guys/gals could do an equally good job if not better as you are not on a time scale & could spend all day doing it but the only draw back would be that it wouldn't be guaranteed!

I guarantee all my work (as any authorised AG valeter should) so for the life of the warranty on the application, if any of my customers had concerns about the longevity of the protection or even if they needed to have a panel replaced or painted as a result of an accident etc, i would re-apply the protection to that area for free!

As i say, this is only MY honest professional opinion & as i said before, only wished you could see the difference now on mine, especially when it rains on it! The beads of water are huge compared to the size of the beads when just waxed or polished! IMHO

thanks folks, especially darren, as i said earlier, i'm well happy with it, just didn't know about claying..gave her a good snow foam the other day, then waxed..paint looks sooooo deep :D

I had a AG Lifeshine done in January on my VRS by a local AG approved Valeter - when we applied it you get a 10 year guarantee from AG and the paperwork to support it. If you have any problems you call AG and they send out someone direct to you. They can also call you as they do random checks on the valeters/dealers and they can check the paint to see if its been applied - no dount some people think dealers may not actually apply it whic is fair comment.

I now use only AG products on the bodywork of the car as thats the best option to keep the guarantee going and means you wont be able to strip the Lifeshine off.

You can still use AG SRP polish and EGP extra gloss protection and also the new AG High Def wax on top. You can also use the AG aqua wax between full waxes which is a great product (express wax in the trade).

Spot on Ryand!!!! The only thing that i do is guarantee the work myself as well as Autoglym so that if there are any questions or problems etc etc my company details are stamped on the warranty form which i give the customer on completion so the customer can call me with their concerns & if needed i will ALWAYS return to sort any problem out!

Apart from a couple of minor dings when i've had to go & re-apply the protection (all under warranty) after the panel/paintwork has been repaired/replaced etc i've not had any complaints whatsoever from even one customer that the system wasn't doing it's job or living up to expectations!

As i say, the only thing i'd recommend is to find an authorised mobile valeter to do it for you so that not only do you benefit from warranted work/back-up & support but especially the cost! Much cheaper than a dealer & IMHO a much better job!

I'd also like to point out that i have indeed had a few cars that were "supposed" to have been LifeShined at a dealers & after valeting the car myself i have advised the customer to go back to the dealer & question the application?

The stuff is worth it's weight in gold (IMO) but can understand some people thinking otherwise especially if they've not had the job done properly!

i stick with AG products, also use collinite wax too even through the AG wet spray wax is so much quicker and easier to do the car with.
