HP Printer Hack

Featured Replies

If any of you have a HP printer with a LCD display like the Laserjet 4000 for example that is connected to your network you should have a go with this.

The results can be quite amusing, you can change the display to show what you like.. ours currently says 'INSERT COINS' the look on our printer engineers face was hilarious!

Fantastic.

our IT boy is out of the office today, but I'll get him to have a look at our trusty Laserjet 4050 which is currently reporting, "Hamster in fuser error" :D

I'm off sick today but will be adding the message "poo in tray 2" to ours tomorrow.

Will have to try this tomorrow! Can't wait...

Sadly , I don't think any of ours have screens :(

Doesn't work on my all in one jobby :( Gutted, could have entertained myself for literally days.

Oh God ! I`m gonna have a busy day tomorrow. :)

Thanks for the heads up.

How do you undo it ?

"recycled toner required"

How do I find the IP address of the printer?

How do I find the IP address of the printer?

Print a test page - usually by holding down one of the buttons for a few secs

SAdly, it won't work with the 2820 All in one we've got on the network here..booooo.

might have to see if we've got any older HP ones knocking about to molest.

How do I find the IP address of the printer?

Depending on how you print, it might be in your control panel -> printers already. You can put in either the IP address or the name the IP is known as at the DNS level :D

on the HP's you normally hold down the menu button i think and it will print a status page with the IP on.

Excellent :D

So can those who've got it to work please post the model numbers -

I've got a room full of numerous HP printers, and I don't want to pull out all of them one by one to try this......

Well i know it works on a LJ4000, and whatever printer Dr Z posted seems to work.

I would imagine any laserjet with a hp jetdirect card and a display should work!

I enjoy it a lot... just wish i could play with one too!

HPLJ4MP+ (think that's the one we've got here). The bloke who sits next to it hasn't twigged yet :rofl:

Chris

Except the all in one MFD;s........such as Colour Laserjet 2820.....and whatever Shifty has......

So what do I put in the IP address box??

20355.attach

Looks like that you print to the printer via a queue on a print server so you'll need to go to the physical printer itself and print a banner sheet to find the IP....

Chris

LJ3500 Colour here... works like a charm
