HELP!! Octavia TDI replacement

Featured Replies

Company car coming to the end of its lease.

Currently got 2.0TDI Elegance - had a few probs in its life.

Question for other Briskodians, what would you replace it with if you had say £19k to spend??

Sensible answers please and the car must be diesel.....................

new C5, new mondeo?

Another Skoda if you are genuinely happy with it.

VW Passat but I might be biased as I have one and I had an Octy before.

2.0 TDI Elegance with DSG?

Agreed about the new C5, looks very smart and loaded with kit.

Golf GT Sport, now has leather as standard.

Seat Leon FR TDi, might be biased with this one :)

Was thinking of the Leon Dave. What's the verdict? Any probs?

After the fantastic result in Driver Power 2008, I can see no reason not to replace it like for like!

I Have just replaced mine "like for like" except gone from elegance to L&K. Biggest mistake I have ever made.First car was brilliant, New car is a big disappointment. (had it 3 days and done 300 miles).

I'm sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with the replacement. As someone who is about to exchange 'like for like', perhaps you could tell us what has contibuted to such a disappointment with the new car.

New car has a much coarser engine and also the fuel consumption is a bit of an issue at the moment.

Loved my previous car but fancied an L&K with the toys and leather etc.

New car seems better screwed together (less rattles and creaks) but the engine noise and thirst has cast a dark cloud over what is after all a £23k car (Octavia 2.0tdi 140 L&K estate, Island green with Columbus , front sensors, silver roof rails, privacy glass, TPM, Factory fit towbar,Zetor engine!!)

Sorry to hear that it is so noisy and thirsty. Is this something your dealer can deal with, especially seeing as you KNOW what the car should sound like?

Booked in Monday, Fingers crossed................

I tried a Tiguan a few weeks back and loved it. Has the new CR engine but I drove one with the DSG and when you start ticking boxes it soon starts to get expensive (just over £26k for an escape to my spec.) as the standard equipment is exactly generous. Build quality was a bit of a joke too but I put this down to being a very early model.

Do keep us posted on the outcome, good or bad!

This thread appears to have gone a bit AWOL. Try and get it back on track with some helpful replacement suggestions please. Anyone test driven anything recently around the 18-19 grand mark

I haven't driven one but £19,990 gets you a Subaru Legacy Sports Tourer with their new diesel engine and even the "basic" spec has loads of toys.

Absolutely love it! Boot is too small really for my line of work and the dash is a bit crap quality wise compared to the Octavia but it outshines my previous Elegance in all other ways.

It's a 'look back' car when you are walking away from it and from certain angles the (optional) 18's look huuuuge. It's turned me into a bit of a hooligan actually, when I first got it I would only put my foot down in a straight line and grin a lot. Now 11,000 miles in I throw it all over as the grip with the 18's is brilliant.

Try and get an extended test drive of the FR as I drove a 140 Reference or something when I choose mine but had read about the reported hard suspension. Passengers think the suspension is hard in my car and it ruins the GFs singing (or makes it better :) ?? ) but I love it!

Got a little squeek from the passenger side somewhere when the Climate is set at 20 but that's it.

So up to now I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and have had nothing but good comments from colleagues who have driven it and passers by!

Civic CTDI or something a bit bigger the latest generation Mondeo / Mazda 6..or another Octavia as we are on a Skoda forum:rolleyes:

When the civics first came out I thought they looked really cool. Now I think they look rediculously old, bloke at work has one and I also now hate the interior with it's crap curvy weird glass dash and crap old mans cardigan material.

Mondeo only looks good in top spec IMHO.

But I agree about the Mazda 6, manga lights!

No need for a rolly eyes, we all know where we are!

New Mazda 6.

Found out today may have 19.5-20k to spend.

Any other ideas?

I had another thread 'Slightly disappointing vRS' cause I wasn't that impressed with the Octy RS (ride a bit too uncomfortable).

If you think the vRS is uncomfortable that definately makes the FR a no go!

Roomster Scout with all the extras :D:D:D:D

Story so far..............

Given £19615 P11D value.

Went to first Citroen garage to look at C5, no test drive available once they knew it was a company car and we use a lease company :finger:

Went to second Citroen garage, bit more helpful but demo car out for day and was 2.2 HDI Auto. (I was looking at 2.0 HDI Man). :thumbdwn:

Went to third garage, demo car out again but was also 2.2 HDI Auto but a Tourer not saloon. Since found out Citroen have provided all dealers with automatic demo cars!!

Went to fourth garage, yes you guessed it demo auto but out already although salesman offered to get 2.0 manual out of showroom but I had to return 2hrs later. Sod that I thought and went home.

Went to Mazda garage in Sheffield on Tuesday to view Mazda6. Apparently UK shortage on diesels but dealer had one at Chesterfield. Booked test drive for today at 1400. Went to dealer today and guess what, dealer forgot to fetch the car from Chezzy.

Anyway, I have thought over and over again even though I put my review of the vRS TDI on this site due to not being entirely pleased with it after a one day test.

I thought better the devil you know (7yrs Skoda driver) and I am considering this............

Skoda Octavia 2.0CR TDI vRS

Candy White

Free extras from Skoda (18's etc)

Front and rear parking sensors

Auto dimming rearview mirror (plus auto wipers/lights)

Cruise control

Heated Seats

All in for P11D of £19620

Shall I do it?? What would delivery time be??
