Good to know that matters have progressed considerably since you first posted.

It seems you need stamina and patience to own a Skoda. Or am I being unfair? I have just sent this message to the Dealer Principal:

I have tried to speak to the Service Department this morning but apparently no one answers the phone there. After my fourth attempt, I left a message for you with your receptionist, which you may not have received.

The last time we spoke you were optimistic on progress you were making with my car but I have heard nothing since. I would appreciate a progress report and perhaps an indication of when I might get the car back.

We were hoping for better news! They've had it now for 2 weeks!! I would be looking for a detailed explanation but communication seems a problem.

Hope you get a favourable response - and soon!

Just heard from the dealer; I will pick up the car tomorrow at 1000hrs.

Either my email or my last posting was effective.

I'm not impressed by your dealer's "customer service" then. I've never had to wait more than a few seconds on either switchboard or extension when making a "semi-random call".

When my car's been in for work, they've always called me when it was ready, and it's normally been ready earlier than they said!

I notice you are from West Scotland. My wife, whom I acquired over 50 years ago in Canada, was born in the Black Isle, and lived for a time in Ullapool.

Hope you'll be able to make a return visit to these beautiful parts. It would be a good way of testing your repaired car!

I hope this will be my final posting on this matter.

I was courteously received this morning by the Dealer Principal and the mechanic who worked on the car. The latter is convinced that the earthing strap was making intermittent contact. If the problem is cured, that is fine but I have trouble getting my head around it. Certainly, they took the problem seriously and feel it is now solved; I just hope they are right.

Apart from the communication problems, my impressions of the dealership, as it is now, is positive, especially as there seems to be a new Sales Manager. I may even consider the new Superb for myself when it comes out.

As the guarantee expired last November, I would not have been too surprised if they had charged me; they did not. I assume that Skoda will recompense them.

Thank you all for your help and useful comments, which have contributed to a satisfactory, if belated, outcome.

The fault was raised within the warranty; such being the case you were entitled to have it resolved.

I suspect that the mechanic might be right, if the issue was with where the earth was fed into one of the connectors, rather than with the actual cable.

Delighted to learn there is a happy ending to this long sorry business.

A new superb? Something else to look forward to!

Good wishes

Glad it seems to be resolved, but keep posting on here

I'm likeing the look of the new Superb, even if it does look huge!

Glad it's all worked out okay
