Oh ****!

Featured Replies

I was waiting for a truck to pull out of a side street earlier today. I hung back to give him enough room, so some cheeky Corsa pulls around me, desperate to be one place in front. Truck gets out and I set off with revenge in mind.

Corsa boy is trying, but he's no match for the vRS. I start to overtake, change gear, and suddenly everything goes flat. Absolutely no power to my right foot. No traction control flash, no warning. I pull off the accellerator, shove the clutch in, and try again.

Perfect power delivery as expected.

So what the hell went wrong? Wastegate? Torque Limiter? Any ideas?

It's the moment God interferes with the red mist and makes you come to your senses in order to prevent an imminent disaster at the next roundabout...

almost sounds like the torque limiter but i only thought that kicked in in 1st when pulling away !?

At least you made the corsa driver's day, Rob.... "yeah, I had one of them skoda RS thingies today - he couldn't match me!" :D

It was perfectly safe, and no speed limits were harmed in the production of this thread. A classic overtaking maneuver.

The Corsa was relegated to its proper position on the road, fear ye not ;)

If you were doing this in first gear, and your ASR dash insturment light started flashing, was this not just a case of unsubtle intervention by traction control killing power?

Sometimes red mist makes your right foot do things that your normally cool head knows ain't going to agree with the car!!!!

The traction control wasn't triggered from what I can gather. I have had similar experiences with a wide open throttle, although it's always been in 5th at 80 for me.

Mine does this now and again.. feels like there is no boost at all .. tum de tum.. ahh 5000 rpm boost again... only really noticable in third.. I have tried blipping the throttle between changes.. strange..

Dazz..

Did you floor it? In that case you probably fooled the ECU by wanting too much too quickly, causing the ECU to play dead, waiting for you to sort out your impossible wishes...

I think we've all had this from time to time. A slightly more progressive throttle build-up seems to help.

But I thought the ECU adapted to your driving style? In which case it shouldn't do this! :D

Rob.

Rip the computer out and drive the car it supposed to be driven.

Depends on your usual driving style. :D
