Fabia vRS: An averae 67.9 MPG from an 88 Mile journey!!! Beat that!

Featured Replies

I am, speechless.

After owning two poxy, petrol guzzeling heaps of faulty junk like the new BMW MINI Cooper S, I have been ASTONISHED by how good my new Fabia vRS is performing.

Yesterday I drove it from my home on a 90 miles journey. When I got out, I briefly noticed an MPG of "65.3 MPG". This I thought must have been an error and didn't think anymore about it... well not until my journey home anyway!

These are the figures I saw from my return journey:

1). 67.9 MPG (!)

2). after an 88 mile journey,

3). taking 1:48 hours

4). at an average of 49 MPH

5). with 385 miles range left

6). and more than half a tank of diesel left!!!

And here's the proof...

Beat that Jeremy Clarkson! ;)

That is pretty impressive well done

7.5 MPG after a twenty minute session around Brunters!

Beat that!

I can go about 480km on 20 litres with urban usage...I make that 68.1 mpg without even trying to be economical... :P

Rob.

Its certainly impressive especially considering how heavy the car is.

Nice, 66.9 is a nice figure. To tell you the true I'm disapointed if I don't get above 50 mpg, even in city centre driving. When I did my trip to the motorshow, Average speed of 74mph  and managed 60.1 mpg which gave me a 700 mile range. Problem was that although it used 1/4 of the tank on the way there it used more on the way back just because you have filled up with so much in the filler pipe!

Thanks everyone.

Whose the moderator on BRISKODA.NET that can change my poxy thread spelling of "...average..."?

:(

With an average of 49 mph you obviously just weren't trying hard enough :D

My wife just managed 38mpg in a Jabba'd Tavia vRS from Whitehaven to Manchester and back. I thought that was pretty impressive. She even admitted to straying above 100

Not quite up to sooty levels but not bad for a 230bhp car :D

Steve

Did that 88 miles start on a full tank?

If I use the vent trick I can get 130 miles out of it before the needle moves off the full mark :D

67.9mpg -

whats that then?

over a weeks use, (which takes up a full tank of diesel), i get an average of 53 -> 54mpg which isn't bad - only reason its low is because of all the country roads before i get to the motorway (spend 1 hour on motorway and 1 hour down country roads every day)

whats that then?

The vent trick is a button (switch kind of thing) on the right hand side which removes air from the tank to let you cram more fuel in. You simply push the nossle against it and it vents air out.

Colin - do you run with the air con on or off? I have exactly the same model as you (approaching 60k so nicely loosened up :D) and I run it with the air con on all the time. I average about 50mpg for a tank, yet trips to Brum from Southampton (130ish miles) show about 47mpg on the computer and I usually have a similar average speed to you! Even driving like Miss Daisy on my way home tonight (gear change at 2k rpm!) I only managed 57.2mpg

Chris

Air-Con is usually always on most of the time on re-circ. I am on 18K miles now, however I run Shell's Diesel extra only and my economy noticebly improved from ordinary diesel. Driving carefully I have got 66.9 mpg out of it once.

Ah maybe that's where I'm going wrong then - I use Tesco city diesel, mainly for the clubcard points, but also because Shell have told me Extra won't be available in Southampton til the summer (July I think they said).... :D

Seem to remember reading in the manual that recirc shouldn't be used for prolonged periods

Use the old bp ultimate and on a long run can get 200miles without the needle moving..... Great ain't it!
