VRS Turbo Lag (Not Hesitation)

Featured Replies

Morning All,

This might just be normal but I think that I have a huge amount of lag before the turbo kicking in.

When the car is up to temp and driving up the dual carriage way, I accelerate off an roundabout and in every gear it takes anything up to 3 secs for the turbo to kick in. Is this amount of time normal as I've not noticed it this bad before.

I have a CAI and Forge 007 diverter fitted and I have a split in the secondary hose for the air filter (sorry, not sure the proper name for this) that is currently sealed up with tape (yes I know). Is it possible that this is causing the problems with the excess lag or should I be looking elsewhere?

Thanks for your advice as always.

Mike

When does the turbo kick in? It should be around 3000rpm...

Although mine seems to be around 2800rpm since I installed the TIP.

Must confess that I didn't think to look. I'll have a play tonight on the way home and post back tomorrow.

3000rpm? Mine spools up from around 2000rpm.

yea mine too. you can feel mine start at jus under 2k and it is in at 2.4k-2.5k+ for sure.

Have now checked mine last night and this morning, last night it seemed ok but didn't kick in until 2500-2800rpm and this morning didn't feel like it kicked in at all. Could this be down to a boost leak on one of the hoses?

me too

Yeah same here about 1900rpm.

I can hear it spooling up sure... but I wouldn't say the turbo "KICKS IN YO" until 2800rpm ish.

Arnt standad 1.8T's mapped for full boost from about 1800? therfore turbo should be spooled and running at correct/max pressure then?

you can feel mine running max torque from ~2000.

Max torque yes but max boost no :P

This is mine which shows it peaks at around 2800rpm. I would say the turbo had kicked in until it's peaked as before it just feels like it's building up pressure and I don't make a habit of flooring it before 2600rpm plus really.
