GSF leaking front shocks

Featured Replies

About 11 months ago (iirc) I fitted a set of replacement shocks (to get my car through an MoT). Anyway shortly before Christmas I noticed one of the front shocks was starting to leaking a bit (when I did my 120k cambelt change).

Does anyone know quite what the GSF policy is on replacement parts? I know it is coming up to a year old, but I did take some pictures before Christmas when I first spotted the leakage, but I have been rather lazy in getting around to contacting anyone. Obviously I can't just return the shock as then I won't have a working car, and would I want to just change one shock? Or given it is only about a year old / 16k miles used would I get away with just swapping one side?

However as have been off ill this week, I have slowly been sorting though my list of outstanding people/paperwork issues I need to deal with.

Thanks,

Matt :-)

I don't know if there are any legal get outs relating to cars.

General rule, goods have to be fit for purpose. A shock that fails in a year isn't fit. So depends on how you want to handle it.

I very much doubt they are under any obligation to do anything but the bare minimum ie take your shock fix or replace at their discretion.

Think you will have to buy a new 1 or 2 then get a refund on 1 or if you are lucky 2 if proven to be faulty.

You might want to look at something heavier duty than standard, such as Koni Specials.

Best thing is to speak to them about it.

I did... and they suggested I sent the faulty shocks back so they could send them to the manufacturer for review. However that obviously leaves me with a car I can't drive :thumbdwn:. So I imagine that I will have to do what Mark suggests and buy a replacement (or a pair) of shocks and then send the old/defective ones back.

I'll have another word with them.
