Interesting.... my mum has come across a 92 Mx5 that she loves.

Then she said it had eunos written on it. Uh oh .... import.

But to top it all off the dealership want £2k for it (1.6). I also read on honest john that the eunos imports didn't get the same body prep as UK spec and were more prone to rusting ? Which kinda contradicts Shomaz ? Which is correct ?

Auroran,

The early cars were only ever built in two factories (Hiroshima and Nagasaki from memory) and were treated exactly the same regardless of where they were being shipped to. All parts are interchangeable as well regardless of whether they were for the Japanese or UK market. Specifications differed slight (japanese cars tend to be higher spec with leather and Air Con). Anythng otherwise is just rumour and B******* spread by those who don't know or have a vested interest (Honest Jon has been weong on many things about the MX5).

oh ok ? wonder where they get there info from ?

I've got a Mk3 Sport.

And I'm not particularly pretty.

Went and test drove a 1.8i this morning, not the roomiest place to be for my frame , felt nice enough to drive but the speedo belighed the noise, pulling on to the 606 thought I must be touching triple figures (which I would have been in either Skoda) but the speedo was reading 65  Have arranged to try the 2.0l which should add some much needed torque, but tbh I just can't see the 20k+ price tag. Thinking of trying a MINI cooper S convertable next, I blame Pixi

Was it a Mk3 you drove?

Personally I'd bag a Mk2.5 and stick a supercharger on there - that'll cure the speed issue :D

After driving the 6MPS and Octy vRS, the 2.0 Sport is all the power you need in an MX-5. They're so light and chuckable, I don't see the need for more power. It just feels right.

I have recently been surprising such cars as BMW 330 (twisties) Mazda RX-8 (Dual carriageway) and Fabia vRS (Motorway)

Will have been it was brand new, afaik the newest model is slightly bigger than previous, as before I have been able to fit in but not well enough to actaully drive it  Sure the 2.0 will provide much more grunt but like I said I'm not sure it is 20k worth of motor.

Consider a pre-registered one. Mine was £16.5K with 300 miles on the clock.

Yep the Mk3 is slightly bigger than the Mk2.5 and Mk2 but then again the Mk1 was slightly smaller outside than the M2 but bigger inside than the Mk1 - Go figure...

And as for the 1.8 vs 2.0 on the Mk3 debate then yes the 1.8 is probably a bit gutless as the Mk3, whilst still light for todays cars is significantly heavier than the Mk1 which weighs in at 960kg to 1040kg depending upon spec. Personally I's wholly agree with Wardy on this onme - go for an earlier car and if you need power go FI. A decent 1.8 will push 180 to 200bhp relatively easily with up to 240bhp possible. Factor in the weight and even for a relatively basic FI set-up that is nearly 200bhp/ton. More than adequate I assure you.

Anyhow, the whole point of the car is the handling balance and roadholding and even the Mk1 will run rings round most things in the twisties if not for outright speed.

For info in terms of track cars, the general consensus appears to be that the 1995 Mk1 1.8 is apparently deemed the best starting point. The suspension is reasonably low as they were raised later in life to improve crash results and pedestrian safety, they have a decent power to weight ratio and if you get the original wheels they are very light weight which benefits the handling.

Just been on a run to North Wales in my 5 with fellow members of the MX5 club.

The 5 is never going to be refined but as the previous poster stated the car is made to handle. It’s not fast but it does put a smile on your face. When the top is down it's just great, even in winter with the heater on full balst!

As a second car it works brilliantly as your main car you may struggle but can be achieved.

There are plenty of kits available as well i.e. Superchargers and Turbo’s

You'd get a decent low mileage sport for £14K or an Icon 2.0 for about £14.8 pre reg with next to no miles.

Never got round to actually test driving the 2.0l in the end, but driving it home from the stealers it certainly felt to have enough torque and acceleration form 60 to 80 in 6th seemed comparable to the Octy, well impressed. Missing Cruise control and somewhere to rest my right foot, much harder seats than the Skoda, but 3 hours in jams and torrential rain on the M1 is probably not the best for drawing judgement about driving it. Hoping to get another go at the weekend :o if swmbo will give up the keys :( Oh and shouldn't have got bloody black  (but price made it a no brainer :D)

Andy, black is the best colour when clean. Enjoy :)

I miss mine every day. A truly excellent car. I will have another one day. I would like a MK1 next time though.

My dad bought mine and his old MK1 v-spec is in my garage and up for sale.

12) Loskie. I have an 07 2.0 Sport. Don't really use it enough but it complements the 10yr Octavia estate workhorse. Am looking forward to a continental; holiday in it this year. the MX5 not Octavia!!
