Are remaps less powerful these days?

Featured Replies

Have tuners reduced the power gains from remaps?? I only ask because when I bought my Ibiza a few years ago it had had a new ECU from superchips and came with all the paperwork that claimed it was now 180bhp. I was looking on their site today, and a remap on the PD130 only gets an increase of 30bhp now.

Does this mean that they reduced the power gains to save clutches or have they reduced the claimed power gain to avoid people complaining if there car doesn't make 180bhp on a RR?

Superchips have always been pretty conservative remaps - they want to minimise people claiming on their warranty.

I'd be surprised if they ever claimed 180bhp from a pd130

If you have a look at Superchips or many other tuners websites they may well show power graphs. Many of which will show their re-map producing for example 180bhp but if you look at the graph for the standard car it may be showing 140+bhp so in effect only a 30-40bhp gain. They don't want to be accused of falsifying figures as on a different rolling road the same car may show a different result.

Don't forget that rolling roads actually measure power at the wheels and the flywheel power is 'guesstimate'.

they are just being more honest.

Agree. REVO use to quote 180bhp but now quote a more realistic 170bhp.

the most i've seen from a re map is about 170 on accurate rollers;)

cheers guys, I thought I was going (more) mad! I liked the superchips remap I had on the Ibiza and was considering one for the golf but thought they might have made it a bit more conservative.

Depends on what you dictate as accurate rollers... back in the day before Awesome and JKM. Stealth's RR was "the shizzle" and ive had 183bhp 320lb/ft on that :P

Welcome to the dyno lottery folks.. :D

One of my pet hates are the ludicrous gains some tuning companies claim. 160bhp from a PD130 is far more realistic with 180bhp being wildly optimistic.
