Restoring calliper lustre

Featured Replies

I think Wonder Wheels has done for the green paint on my brake callipers. They've been perfect until I started using that cr*p, and now the paint is suddenly fading and going blotchy! Apart from repainting the callipers, what can I do to restore them?

Try some T-Cut or equivalent that should do it

Strange, they must have changed the formula. I used it for 2 years without trouble.

I use wonder wheels on my calipers. All be it at a ratio of 10-1 with water.

Apply it with a toothbrush then rinse straight away. Does the job for me, so far anyway.

anyone got any idea what the paint code is for the green used on the vRS calipers ??

theres a whooping chip out the drivers side front caliper right on the front face...

Aye use t-cut, although i use meguairs gold class polish which brings em up nicley... give em a wax after too for protection... wonder wheels always effects them

Can you use any alternative to caliper paint ie...hammerite ??

Nigel/All,

Did anyone find out the answer to this? I've got a small chip on my passenger side front caliper and want to touch it up before it gets worse

I'd suggest hammerite green.

When Ross sourced my calipers for the 312mm upgrade on my furby, he very kindly painted them green with hammerite. Looked very nice and no signs of chipping - well, for the 2 months I had them on

Thanks but is that a good colour match for the standard paint?

Go for the "smooth" green, I think its called, not the other one. Following Ross' posting of piccies of the aforementioned painted calipers, I went out and got a tin myself. I shall be taking the earliest opportunity to repaint mine as the stuff from Milotec has not really lasted long at all. :(

(and hammerite was half the price for about TEN times the amount ;))

edit: I can't find the piccies now, but there was a thread where Ross posted piccies of the painted calipers, and the pots of spray paint. Oh, it was also called something like "straight to rust" which means it's probably tougher than regular hamnmerite too. :D I'm still going to give mine a going over with a wire brush to allow the new paint to stick better, then see about applying a layer of lacquer, as I have two unopened cans of the stuff. :)

Piccie time then....

Excellent, thanks guys

Well... I was close with "straight to rust"

I got it in tin form though, so hoping that using a brush won't make it too much different to how it looks when the paint has been sprayed on.

Awww Ross, green paint on your nice white walls!!

See my replies in the cupra intake/strut brace thread. I painted my brace with some green paint from Halfrauds, it's Ford colour.

I used Halfords own-brand Caliper Paint on my 312's and they look great.

(on a side note, I used Wonder Wheels for the first time yesterday because my wheels were in a right state after letting the hand car wash do my car the past few times... They never get the wheels clean!... Wonder Wheels is amazing!)
