Update on Fabia Vrs Samco hoses.

Good news and some bad news.

Bad news first. Have been sent a set down for the demo vehicle, which we had trouble with the hose end’s connecting to the plastic pipe between the turbo and top of the intercooler. The bottom intercooler hose, fits perfect.

Good news is now we have spoken with Mark @ Samco, supplied the plastic pipe to be machine into a one piece hose, from top of the intercooler to turbo. This is very near to completion; once they had been sent and tested to make sure everything is ok. Then in theory the ASZ hose kit will be ready for Sale. Pricing will follow due to change in design.

Anyone bought these yet? Any good?

I was tempted but at £215 I thought it best not too as I'll be chopping the ends off to fit a FMIC in the future anyway

I've not seen them available anywhere yet.

I notice they say ASZ kit will be available soon what bout the bacon lettuce and tomato (BLT) engines are they dif?

They are available exclusively from Sherlodge Garage in Kent for the time being,

ASZ kit No TSC407, BLT Kit No TCS406

Right, I have finally got the cost of both kits from, (as Stott's post) Sherlodge Garage.

For the ASZ and BLT, £252.99

Contact Richard or Russ (in parts) at Sherlodge for further details on 01634 377444

Wow! Mark (Hale) rang me on Friday and gave me the price of £215! might have been the accent though as he's a foreigner (round here at least)

Will be making mine in the same stylee as my turbo outlet pipe, bye bye boost leak from original item

Pic 615: make an insert in the lathe and cut your original pipe at the swage line

Pic 619: Weld it

Pic 624: Build it (RE 51-45 samco pipe, £14)

Pic 625: Fit it

Pic 706: Enjoy the extra economy :P

PS, part No 6Q0 145 822 (OEM replacement) is £96, so, top bodging I say!

Looking good :D

Same I haven't got the spare cash ATM... :(

Samco was silly expensive even for an inducition elbow for for last car. When for a chromed one for less than half the price. Why is it SO expensive?

Edited by mardon

Hmm...i'll be giving them a miss at that price. :(

Basically, partially to recoup the development costs of the tooling, but mostly because each hose is hand made on a mandrel with sheets of thin silicone then weave then tape etc, depending on what ply/type of hose it is etc etc

Your paying for some guy's time to do all this. (you can watch some Chinese factory workers making them here: YouTube - silicone hose ,rubber hose ,hiwowsport)

Although I beleive the Vrs kit is expensive due to the billet quick fit ends (over and above the usual high cost), but, when you think the turbo outlet pipe as I mentioned above is 6" long and costs £96 from a dealer, and I think from memory the bootom ally pipe and hose elbow are circa £60, their prices seem comparable.

The best don't come cheap I'm afraid, I have a length of 90mm ID silicone boost pipe here and a length of samco 90mm ID, you can screw the cheaper stuff into a lump and poke it inside the samco, the same thing can't be said 'tother way round...

I too have been speaking with Richard over at Sherlodge garage and the price is definately £252.99 and they are looking at £99 fitting costs for those of you that don't have time to do it yourself.

But personally I will be getting them to do it the same time they inverstigate the high pitched whistling at very low revs. I am sure the noise is a leaking intercooler hose anyway so this kit will solve that.

the kit can be obtained in several colours at present. the very typical blue, black and also red. that was not all the colours just the ones he told me at time so we will see.

I will be going for either blue or red though as I have the VRS SE in Race blue, and red fittings.

definately keep an eye out for some reviews on it though...

once fitted I will definately be doing Pikey mod 1 and 2 to get some better air flow through the intercooler.

for now all have fun.

high pitched whistling at low revs/ idle couuld be the EGR valve?

think i'll be avoidin this one too. Might get me local stainless geezer to build me a stainless pipe n get some angled silicone bends..........

£99 to pop 4 quick clips and refit the hoses!

20mins work for even the most cackhanded person

and people wonder why they are referred to as main stealers..........

high pitched whistling at low revs/ idle couuld be the EGR valve?

Well even if that is the problem then I am in luck I all ready have an allard EGR replacement in hand but not fitted...

oh well back to this thread.

If it turns out to be a case that the Samco kit is just a case of 4 or 5 bits just clipping together then I will be fitting it myself. save the £99 cost...

will check out the smaco site and see if on there yet...

the egr whistling at lower revs is normal IIRC

wow! Mark (hale) rang me on friday and gave me the price of £215!

£215+vat=£252.63

Im nights, leave me and my 'obvious mistake' alone................ :P

Anyway, he should have said, plus vat!

Had pipes fitted to my Ibiza 130 FR today :-)

Did a before and after power run too, that I will try and add later.

But the power run does tell the full story, its driving that does, miles smoother and seems to start boosting quicker. There used to be a thump as the boost came on, but that has now gone. It also seems more responsive and maybe quiter?

I would be very surprised if these didnt make a bigger difference on a remaped car as the lower intercooler pipe that is replaced looks very restricitive as standard.

Also Mech Repairs in cheltenham seem a great bunch, willing to do a forum power run day if thats what people would like, but I'll try and figure out how to put a feeler for that later.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info. Any photos of them fitted?

Steve

Sorry to seem negative - but at that price, you are halfway towards a FMIC.

Umm I got it as part of there development... They wanted to check it fitted the Ibiza :-)

:-)

Pictures! :D
