Octavia VRS front spring replacement

Featured Replies

Hi

My recently purchased 05 mk1 VRS has been lowerd 30mm with what I can only imagine are the cheepest pile of crap available. When I go over a bump or even crawl over a speed bump the car feels like its sitting on a pogo stick.:jumpsmile

The guy I bought the car from gave me the origional springs which I intend on fitting this weekend. I have fitted shocks and springs before on other cars (celica GT-Four, VW T4, Caterham 7) but I was wondering if there are any tips for the VRS? Especialy the front as the rears look easy.

I was looking for a guide on briskoda incase this has already been covered but couldnt find what I was looking for....

Any advise much appreciated.

Thanks

Presuming it's not on coilovers, the only possible gotcha I can see would be that you will need spring compressors to get the springs in and out of the struts. Not sure if you'd have needed them before.

In case you've not, set them so that the screw is at right angles to the coils, and wind them up and down a turn or two each side at a time to stop them slipping, or launching a spring!

A hub spreading tool is also very useful.

The items on the car at the moment are deffo not coil over.

I do have spring compressors, however I hate using them.. Always feels like they can let go at any moment and send the spring into my face. LOL

having seen a spring go be extremely careful luckily at the time no one was in the directions all the bits went and the spring had been mostly unwound.
