EPC what does this light mean?

Featured Replies

the EPC light has just come on the dash ive looked in the skoda manual and all it says is there is a problem with the electronic engine power control whatever that means. ive searched this site but there is lots of people saying different things the car feels like it may of lost a bit of power it is a 1.4 8v engine.

anybody got any ideas?:)

Get the code read by either someone with vag.com or pop down the dealership and they will read it.

First of all check your brake lights.

ive just checked and its the brake lights they dont work at all what could of caused this?

Brake light switch by the brake pedel.

A search on here for "brake light switch" will reveal a lot more info.

HTH

Hmm, mines come on too .. maybe time to check my brake lights, though I'm sure they were working t'other day.

Ordered a usb code reader from Ebay as this car seems prone to all sorts of "Diva" moments.

"Oh my God, the brakes aren't working - quick, get me to a garage right now!" - stupid computerised cars.

Gimme a good old no-nonsense setup with basic electrics any day, less fancy, less gimmicky and less to go wrong! :p

fuse could be out.

bulbs could have blown (but you'd still get the high level working i'd think)

ive replaaced the brake light switch today and all is working again brake lights work and after driving the car for about 2 mins the EPC light on the dash went out the new switch cost £8.14 inc vat. Hooray!

Nothing beats the satisfaction gained by saving a bit of money.

Brilliant result.

Great stuff! Where did you buy the switch?

I think your local VAG dealer would be the best place to try - that way you are sure to get the leatest variant of this troublesome item!

Yup - turns out mine is the brake light too.

Got it checked - error code is the brake light. They were working fine- until tonight, put the car in the garage and noticed a distinct lack of red light when I stopped.

Time to order a new switch methinks. Odd that a few are going, I guess they must wear out more than the old types did.

A few are going?

They are all going!

VW keep revising them, there have been about half a dozen part numbers now but they are all rubbish unfortunately!

Heh, what's wrong with old fashioned 'switch on a spring' ? My old ford escort MkI and even the felicia did over 140K without me even thinking about the brake light switch, never mind replaced. ;)

Because Mk1 Escorts never had cruise control so they didn't need a switch that knew the very instant you touched the pedal.

Neither does my 1.4MPI Fabia . ;)

What can I tell ya? I'm not impressed by all these 'toys' and the new Volvo which will brake because you're not paying attention, dear God, what next? Sensor on the side to stop you sideswiping as you fall asleep?

That said, by this time in me life, I was expecting to have at least a hover car to travel in.
