Helix SMF & Clutch Fitted along with Induction kit

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just had this little lot fitted to my VRS as the clutch has been slipping for a while

Along with a new Slave cylinder and a brake fluid change, Stealth Racing charged me £1200 all in which I didn't think was too bad (4.5 hours labour to fit the Clutch)

I also fitted a Pipercross induction kit yesterday for good measure to try and increase the noise of my VRS.

The Results:

Firstly the Induction kit....

Crap fitting kit, instructions were adequate, and not a lot in the box for the money really.

First impressions were good....a gentle drive to get the car up to temp saw the car having a nice hissing sound which i'd hoped would develop into a roar when I planted the gas.... But Alas it did not :( Hardly any extra noise than standard. Doh!!!

Now the Clutch....

On initial start up and idle it makes one hell of a racket  Just like what a 20 year old diesel does.... Even on the move at low RPM its noisey unless your foot is on the clutch.

At this point your thinking i've just pretty much wasted £1200..... But No! As both of these 2 mods have something in common that has transformed the car to drive :)

As a result of the de-restricted breathing and lightweight clutch, the car now behaves a lot more like a petrol than a diesel! It actually wants to Rev! And Rev hard, right the way to the redline... where as before I used to rely on the cars low down torque and change gear nice and early, it now loves being revved and it feels sooo much more eager at the top end. Its FANTASTIC!!! Its made cornering much more enjoyable too as I can feather the throttle much better to use more top end grunt on the corner exit.

So overall its a

To conclude.... If you want extra Noise on full chat Don't buy a Pipercross Induction kit, you'll be dissapointed. And if you want a nice quite ride with a smoothly idleing clutch Don't buy an Helix SMF & Clutch!

But if you want you car to behave more like a petrol and Rev faster and smoother/higher up the rev range, I'd defo recommend both.

I hope I haven't bored you, just relaying my findings.

Neil

The Helix is amazing isnt it :)

I love the sharp gearchanges and the bite.

I paid £830 for the kit and it cost me £120 to fit it (along with 312's so was probaly under £100 for fitting)

:)

Great write up - many thanks for posting! :D

A decent clutch is on my list of 'to dos'!

nothing wrong with a bit of gear chatter:D

Looks like an impressive piece of kit that

Has the peddle stiffness changed at all?? as in is it harder to press down

Ever so slighty when you first depress the pedal a few times, but within 5 mins driving you've got used to it :)

Agreed, pedal is slightly stiffer than OEM but you get used to it, tbh i actually prefer it

had mine in for a service and got a report back of excess vibrations coming from flywheel and engine to body.

last time i'm putting my car there, don't think they've even seen a modified car!

i don't mind a bit of chatter though

IIRC it was just under a grand for mine fitted
