Why is he flashing me...... strange.......

Featured Replies

Start of Rant:

Just been up to Dundee (from Fife) to get shopping at Tesco Extra. Took my time driving up there, no more than 60. Gets the shopping and heads of back down the A92.

Over the Tay Bridge and follows a Stagecoach bus for a few miles until I get a chance to pass it, which I do safely and swiftly.

Set the cruise to 60 as the road is wet with quite a few patches of standing water around. I see 60 as been OK for this road even when wet, no bad corners, decent visibility, not much traffic around.

So, Im not that far ahead of the bus, maybe a mile so I guess the bus is now doing not far off 60 either. See in my mirror a blue car pass the bus and quite quickly gains on me and starts to look for an overtake on me.

At about this time, the road gets much dryer, so guessing the guy behind wants to make some better progress, I endulge and speed up a wee bit ,as unless he wants to do an overtake on a blind bend/solid white lines/chevrons cos of junctions etc he would have to stay where he is. So get up to about 70 or 80 and he starts flashing his lights, thought it was his car going over ridges in the road at first but couldnt be sure. This goes on for quite a while, whatever speed I do, he does. Still flashing his lights and then waving BOTH arms at me over his steering wheel. Come to a long straight about a mile before a roundabout and there is quite clearly a talivan sitting on the other side of the road, aiming his gun at oncoming traffic. So, been a gentleman I gently slow my speed down to an indicated 65 which will be around 60 in real terms. Once out of his way and the other side of the roundabout I accelerate again but come across a beemer doing about 65 and keep behind at a good distance. No overtakes coming up as we are now coming toward Freucie and there is quite a few junctions around. Guy behind is still flashing me, whats his problem? Beemer turns off and I accelerate again on a straight to about 80 but then slow right down to the 40 limit for the village. Once out back in NSL and up to 60 again, now behind another car, he is still flashing me, FFS whats this guy on?

So, at the next roundabout I stop at the Give Way and get out and ask him.

Me: "Whats up Pal?"

Him: "Your doing some crazy speeds there"

Me: "And you were keeping right up with me!"

Him: "I flashed you twice to warn you of the police"

Me: "Right, but you were doing the same speed as me"

and at that point, losing the will to live I just got back in my car.

I did note that under his black fleece with DeWalt on it, he was wearing a white shirt and black trousers.

He went past me onto a small Dual carriageway and I then (intentionally of course) overtook him at about 70 (70 limit) so he then speeds up and flashes me again. FFS.

Am I missing something here??

OK, Im breaking the limit a wee bit on the NSL but slowing right down for the village and a couple of areas where there are a couple of junctions etc.

What is it with some people?

Steve

Rant Over!

Easy lesson there, don't speed ;)

Personally I would of allowed the blue car to pass if possible. May not of been possible depending on the road through.

Often I get flashed if I overtake cars on NSL, with me staying within the speed limit. No idea why, but I think some people don't like being over taken. Or in this case, you overtaking

Kick his headlights in, now flash em ya ****** ha ha ha ha.

You should have said

"Only God can Judge me, now F**k off you tw*t."

Undercover polis trying to incite you into speeding just as you came up to the talivan??

Underover polis trying to incite you into sppeding just as you came up to the talivan??

Do things like this actually happen these days in this country?

I flashed a car with SK plates once after it overtook me. The reason wasn't that it overtook me, the reason was they tailgated me for quite a distance, overtook and cut in rather close. So think of everything else, there might be a reason other than just overtaking.

This was a while ago, I think in future tailgaters will be treated to me slowing down and indicating right.

I had never been behind this guy though, he came from behind (ohhhh matron)..........

Yes, I was been a little heavy footed for a while but slowed when the road changed. What made me and SWMBO laugh was:

a. He came from a good distance behind and caught us up, we were doing 60 at the time, so he MUST of been speeding to catch us up.

b. He obviously thought that my speeding was more dangerous than him lifting BOTH hands from the wheel to gestulate at me to slow down.

c. He kept up with me just to tell me I was driving at crazy speeds. God, he should see me when Im alone in the car and on a road I know doesnt get Talivans on it!!

d. Also thought that distracting me for several minutes by flashing his lights wasnt going to cause me to crash cos I was paying too much attention to my rear view mirror.

He was lucky I didnt get my friend out from under the seat to say hello to him!

Ah so those wheel braces have more than one use :D

Speed kills, or do you not realise this.

Need it be your family that gets wipped out, as I don't need it to be mine.

Sounds like a quote from a Brake spokesman :thumbdwn::thumbdwn:

Lets get it clear - speed doesn't kill. Inappropriate speed does.

Well said that man...

You've made one mistake....

Go so fast no car can catch you up.... this might mean 100mph+ through villages but trust me it works.

All kidding aside, who knows. The road is full of complete retards nowadays it seems :D

I know. One thing I do try to do is keep to the limit, or even below it in residential areas. Straight, dry, good visibilty NSL's are fair game though!!

Maybe shouldnt of posted about this, Im a tad embarresed that a Vauxhall Meriva was keeping up with me! Or should I say catching up with me once I slowed down for the areas of several junctions/bends/hazards.

Well, most humble cars are easily capable of 100mph so I don't think that's anything to worry about as such! As for what that guy was playing at, that's anyone's guess. It seems to be a bit too much of a concentrated effort for normal "goodwill" from another member of the public.

Maybe it's the same type of person as the one who lives in my town and buys up ex police cars, still with the battenburg livery on, and drives them about with a white shirt and tie . . .

Your kidding................ right?

I thought all the reflective tape was removed when they were decommissioned?

Thats even worse than people putting the yellow hi-viz on the parcel shelf when they are driving a white omega/bmw etc!

I'm afraid I'm not kidding. His latest purchase is a white astra panda car which judging by the livery has been retrieved from GMP.

I think they're still allowed to have the livery on as long as there's no working blue lights or "POLICE" markings? I'd swear this one had POLICE on it still though, although the light bar was wrapped up in black bin-liners. Maybe one of our own boys in blue might be able to shed some light on this?

I know the Scottish forces make removing reflective and flourescent markings part of the decom process.

He's trying to warn you about unsafe driving and he's driving a Vauxhall Meriva???

sounds like a muppet to me!

i once had a phone call once from a member of the public saying theyve just seen one of our stickered up cars going along the motorway closely follwed by one without plates. he says the cars were going about 90mph. he wants to complain as he feels that as the car without plates must be a new car thats no way of running it in and both cars were speeding.

so at this point i ask how did he get our number? he says why i got it off the back of the stickered up car. bearing in mind he said the stickered car was in front, and going at 90mph. that means he must have undertook them and been going much faster than 90mph. and the phone number wasnt all that big either!

then i ask when did this happen, he says just this second, im still following them! i then ask how did he note the number down, he says on his mobile phone, which he then used to ring me.

so i know the unplated car is a used car awaiting new plates as it was sold on a private plate. i also know the person buying it is a good friend of the bosses so wouldnt mind him driving it like that. but what bugged me the most was this guy, driving like a muppet, using his phone and then ringing me to complain about poor driving!! :finger:

when i relayed the that to said member of the public, the phone went mysteriously dead.

A good point indeed.
